neil e
Just had belts, B service and loads more at Lakeside Engeering. Collected the car this morning. And I forgot to ask the following. I have studied the old cam belts with intrest. These belts are 5 yrs old and 9k on them. Yes I know I should use the car more. But being under tension while the cars sat in the garage still wears them. But they look still as new to me no cracks or lines etc. Do the belts fray and split when they are wearing out or are they always like this until they snap. Glad I have had them changed again for peace of mind. This is out of intrest.
Gold FFM Barrykearley Posted June 27, 2015 Gold FFM Report Share Posted June 27, 2015 They dry up and age no matter what - that's my understanding...... Never ever spray them with anything thinking it will help - it won't......... For the cost - it's far better swapping them there is no doubt about that. steve930
I'm guessing examining the belt under a microscope would tell a different story to what can be seen by the naked eye. It would be interesting to put both new and old belts on some kind of stress test rig & observe the results
