Had my B service done in March at Nick Whale's. That prices seems about right - I had to have extra stuff done for the MOT (new tyres, exhaust.....)

Hi Mike,

Get them to check the intermediate shaft bearings at the same time. My bearings had gone and the shaft wobbled a lot causing large changes in belt tension, it was a miracle the belt hadn't jumped at all. It is an expensive repair but cheaper than a belt failure.

cheers

Hi Chris

What mileage was showing when the intermediate shaft bearings were replaced?

Thanks

It has about 28k on it. The liners were done at 16k and the belts were changed then too.

The intermediate shaft is quite short and the would seem to put quite a lot of load on the bearings.

There was also an upgraded bearing change at some point in the V8 development but I am not sure when.

The job is expensive because the cover which houses one of the bearings has no locating dowl and special tools are needed to align everything. That is additional cost to the bearing which is

Thanks Chris

Hopefully this development occurred before my 52V8 !

I guess I will email Brian Angus to see if he can shed any light on this

Cheers

Hi Glyn,

The upgraded bearing was fitted to my Esprit before it failed so I wouldn't place too much hope in this as a solution. Just make sure it is checked regularly. Mine was so loose that it had also started to move in the bearing housing (the engine block). Fortunately this had not done any damage to the block otherwise I would be in the marked for a new engine!

PS Can someone who has an original windscreen take a couple of photos of the exterior trim for me please. I have had mine replaced and I am not happy with the finish. The new trim sits on top of the edge of the A pillar and I don't think it should but I am not sure.

cheers

I remember Howard posting that Paul Mattys changed the belts on Renus Sport 350 a couple of years ago (at a better price than any of the franchised dealers had quoted). :D

The thing was still running very well when its current owner, a Mr.M Ring was chauffeuring me around the Norfolk region in it this fall. :D
