Cushing
I had some cracking on the body shell around the RHS rear frame body mount, I thought it was something to do with the weight of the battery so relocated the battery in the front. And yes, for those eagle eyed among us, I have to take out the battery if I get a flat, but I can live with that.

Cushing
Not really, took me most of the day but pleased with the result. The most time consuming was making a box to cover the old battery space, also installed a cut off switch in the rear.
Mike6
That cracking is a fairly common problem which I doubt has anything to do with battery weight. By moving it to the front will it not simply increase weight at that end and make the steering even heavier.
Cushing
I agree with you there, but why do all the cars that have cracking problem only have it on the RH side of the car, have you seen one with cracks on the other side ? lotus-62
I have a rhs crack as well, allways wanderd where it's from. I have relocated my battery also but that's because I wanted a little bit more weight up front in the rain
Qavion
Have the prices of lightweight batteries come down in recent years? I've heard of batteries half the original weight or less. e.g. those from Braille (USA). Unfortunately, it seems, special mounts and connectors are required. Mike6
Agree that all the ones I have seem - mine included are on the right side. Could it have something to do with weight of driver on that side of car
Mike6
Unless we have been talking at cross purposes its where the bobbin is mounted on the bodywork to chassis point. The glassfibre can tear away completely around the bolt so that the bodywork that side can bang against the chassis. This can then lead to cracks radiating from that point. You have to fabricate a plate as a repair

You have to fabricate a plate as a repair I thought the issue with the rear body mount was normally on the other (LH/UK passenger) side where the body is cut away to accommodate the exhaust? Mike6
The ones I have seen are all right hand side viewed standing behind the car
eeyoreish
Actually the weight of the battery should help hold the body down Quote Not worth starting anything now...🍺
Cushing
This is where the cracking occurs, I've seen the same on three Esprit's, it's apparently a common fault. I just assumed it was due to the weight of the battery.
