The chrome trim has a "T" section and is glued in place between the glass and the bodywork. I would say it is next to impossible to remove the trim without destroying it - it's made from aluminium and distorts badly if any force is applied to it. You should consider that you'll have to replace it. I did!!! I'm not sure about current availability, but I got mine from S&J in about 1994. You can certainly get the trim out without removing the glass; just be careful you don't break the screen in the process!!

I have recently had a new windscreen & new trim fitted on my S3 - got it from Fibreglass services.

Had a new screen fitted by the factory about 3 years ago and found that the metal trim was only available in two seperate pieces for the top of the screen. Why?, I dont know. Got this thought that some bloke makes one the correct length and then saws it in half so it can be packed easier!!

My understanding is tha the factory didnt have any of the top trims left but had the left and right.

When my screen was replaced two lefts and two rights were used.

One of left and one right were cut to fit the top section hence the two parts.

As per previous thread i think SJ Sportscars had them manufactured so they should be available in the right length now although they wont be Lotus parts.

I remember visiting a website that had a red G-car with black rubber replacements for the silver trim and it looked awesome. I can't find it again. Does anyone else know of this car or the link?

Black trim?? sounds nasty!!! :)

Troy halliday restored his S3 in "James Bond" Bronze and used black trims, perhaps it was this car you saw? Do a search for his posts and you'll see links to his photos.
