Personally I'd think this is just attractive to people as an old bottle, as the spirit itself is only a blended scotch, and no bottled spirit ages once it leaves the casks, so it's effectively only as "old" as the day it was bottled. Nice piece of memorabilia though, and seems some retailers want c£200-£400 for this depending on age.

Given you'll not be able to sell it on eBay (I think you can sell miniatures where the sale is the bottle but still has spirit in them),you probably want to approach an auction house, even if they don't sell it themselves they'll know which specialist is best placed and so earn their commission that way.

...As the thread has swung from whisky to whiskey My preference are the domestic Irish blends - the ubiquitous Paddy's, (or Powers if you go north of the border).  Although currently enjoying a Jamesons at the mo - Actually bottled at the Bushmills distillery, which is a fine day out

Only a blended one although old by the proof designation rather than ABV %  I have just looked at "The Whisky Exchange" that sells old bottles and a 80's Haig Gold Label but in clear glass I see is in the first few pages of old blended for about £70.  Not sure how they buy from you or the mark up etc.

I got a bottle of Machrie Moor single cask, from Arran, for my birthday. Haven't tasted it yet, waiting for a good occasion...

I have made many mistakes in my life. Buying a multiple Lotus is not one of them.

The idea of (a decent single malt, so not JD) on ice makes me shudder. The ideal whisky glass is like a brandy glass but with no stem, so you warm the drink by the heat of your hands and so get the subtler aromatics really going. If it's to be diluted then still water, the more pure the better, and not chilled.

Not warm, but certainly not cold. When I get a bottle from the non-heated storage in winter, I always let it get up to temperature before drinking. A little water (at room temperature) can be added to release more aroma, but normally no ice. At least that's what I've been told by people who know far more about whisky than myself.

I have made many mistakes in my life. Buying a multiple Lotus is not one of them.

Anything over 45% is fair game for a few drops of water, just enough to bring the burn down and taste more. I had a cask strength scotch recently that was 50 or 60% and absolutely needed %10 water, think it was Nadurra, lovely stuff. Under that and there's no need unless you prefer it. Room temp is fine for me but some prefer slightly chilled, using frozen rocks so they don't melt.

Not sure what whiskey I drank all I know is that I drank 2 litres of it over Xmas period...and a bottle of Jim Beam.....and half a bottle of JD Honey....not to mention 5 bottles of red wine and copious beers.

Do I win a prize? and if so, does it include a new Liver because I may need one!

I used to drink JD and dry ginger ale. That was all. I like the JD taste. Oh, have also tried Glenfiddich, which was nice. Haven't tried any of the others on here that people are talking about.

I am pretty sure that JD has an 'e' in it. Not sure about Glenfiddich. So maybe they are outside the rule that someone mentioned earlier?

Found out it bit more about the Bottle of Haig Gold Label from Domonic Roskrow.

It is probably as old as the 1950's and he would personally love to try it as it would have definitely changed its flavor.

At the whisky exchange you are looking at £250 + so as I promised the mother in law I would sell it for her I intend to put it to auction.

Hopefully should get half that.

If anyone here is interested  let me know soon.
