plumdeplakmuis
Time for the Esprit GT3 to become more GT3ish. First more power... new turbo setup, second get a GT3 interior as this was fitted with V8 seats and steering wheel. Third general other upgrades suspension brakes etc.. Starting with more power, and getting rid of the quad exhaust in the process. Plan is to fit a new turbo, increasing max compressor flow from 0.18 m3/sec to 0.23 m3/sec. New turbo has integrated by-pass valve, and should give better transient through better turbine efficiency. And hope it will fit without to many modifications. The as replacement for the exhaust, we consider a fabricated system, still need to select the cat and the damper. http://www.thelotusforums.com/forums/gallery/image/4320-espritoriginal/ Original car http://www.thelotusforums.com/forums/gallery/image/4323-4exhaust/ Time to get rid of the quad exhaust Quote VAN DER LEE Turbo Systems - www.vdlee.com
silverfrost
Hi Jaap Glad to see you are turning the car back to a standard GT3, I love this model and would love a chrome orange one. Most of them seem to unmolested, but nothing wrong with a bit more power, good luck on the project Quote A
Loose Cannon
The V8 and GT3 steering wheel was the same (Momo Shuttle) unless yours has an airbag. It's a nice bit of kit and looks more at home in the Esprit's classy interior than any aftermarket thing I've ever seen. Have you found some GT3 bucket seats are are you getting them made up? plumdeplakmuis
Hello Mark, Wheel is the airbag wheel, (Airbag not even working). Looking for the Momo wheel. Still looking for GT3 seats. But if I can't find them i guess SJ Sportscars setas would be the only option. Loose Cannon
The GT3 buckets rarely come up for sale second hand, Last time I checked both the factory and PUK/Ramspott & Brandt would make them up. For the price though would it be worth seeing if the Recaro recliners from an Evora would fit? plumdeplakmuis
Turbo out, had to grind of the nuts as no spanner seems to fit? http://www.thelotusforums.com/forums/gallery/image/4322-turbo-out/ New turbo with same installation dimensions. Only need a turbine inlet adaptor flange and some oil and water adaptors. http://www.thelotusforums.com/forums/gallery/image/4324-besides-the-new-turbo/ http://www.thelotusforums.com/forums/gallery/image/4325-new-turbo-front/ Now figure out how to get the remainder of the studs out of the manifold. plumdeplakmuis
Continued trying to take the studs out. First wrecked a stud wrench on it. Later tried to weld nuts to the studs. No movement what so ever even heating the manifold to red colour with a gas/oxygen burner. Now last resort drilling them out. Gold FFM Chillidoggy Posted November 27, 2015 Gold FFM Report Share Posted November 27, 2015 The turbo exhaust studs were the same on my car, not surprising really. Have you checked to see if your exhaust manifold is cracked? Quote Margate Exotics.
plumdeplakmuis
Now getting ready for the new set. Chargecooler needed to be reolcated slightly to the left side as the MHI based turbo is a bit shorter. Starting to look good. plumdeplakmuis
And it works.. And looks a lot better than the former quad exhaust setup. I will try to post a video with sound later. plumdeplakmuis
Next job is upgrading the ECU. Now considering the PUK Esprit GT3 ECU, but I think going to a full bespoke setup would be better, as also the turbo and exhaust system are changed. Therefore looking for a old Esprit ECU (Non working) to use as a canister to house a stand alone system. (MoTeC, Liferacing, OBR, megasquirt, not decided yet) Quote VAN DER LEE Turbo Systems - www.vdlee.com

plumdeplakmuis
Now next phase, Updating the interior, found a GT3 steering wheel. But no seats yet. And at later stage a programmable ECU, (Considering Motec M84 or EFi Euro4) Based on some earlier comments the GT3 seats are not found to be practical for long journeys. But the V8 seats are definitely unacceptable in terms of support, they are just to slippery. One solution can be changing the center section of the seat with alcantara or whatever material is used also for the roof and some of the door trim. Gold FFM Chillidoggy Posted May 3, 2016 Gold FFM Report Share Posted May 3, 2016 Get rid of that awful 'turbo' badge on the rear end. That's a real cheap upgrade! 1 Quote Margate Exotics.
plumdeplakmuis
Yes I need to address detailing as well. Get the turbo and GT3 sticker on the side of. Looks like Porsche stickers. But thinking of applying the original GT3 side stickers. Not sure if they were ever applied to black cars in a contrast colour. plumdeplakmuis
Final decision made on the ECU. We selected the EFi Euro 4, by Ole Bull racing. Will take some time to get it installed. plumdeplakmuis
First challenge is to create a signal from the cam position. I have searched the web for some examples but so far nothing found. Any thoughts on how and which parts to use to create a cam position sensor? plumdeplakmuis
New decision making, first new injectors. Decided on Bosch EV14 by deatschwerks. plumdeplakmuis
Finally some power figures with the new upgrade kit, not so bad at 1.2 bar boost.
