Lotus Emotion concept

Recommended Posts

On the back of Mark's thread about Bertone being sold off brought a bit of memory stirring about the Emotion concept of 1991. Based on the Esprit chassis of the time it was a non-running prototype with a bodyshape that was to become a little more familiar a year or so later. Not sure if it would have stood the test of a long production run, but I kinda like it.

Info blurb clicky

I like that too. A little bit of EB110 without the angles.

Interestingly enough, the spoiler is very Evora-esque. But the windscreen is reminiscent of the Evora engine bay screen :D

It's yellow now which doesn't look as "British", even though it was just a rejected Bugatti design. Perhaps that's where Lotus would have gone if Artioli had remained in charge?

I seem to recall the "car" is just a lump of wood and plaster, so unlikely to be made roadworthy

From my Lotus COncept Cars and One-offs Blog on LotusPALS

Bertone Emotion  1991

Bertone's studio did a non running concept on the Esprit chassis in 1991 called the Bertone Emotion.  At the time there were rumors that the concept was originally a proposal for the Bugatti EB110 which was declined and then converted to a Lotus concept in the hopes that Lotus would use it as the next Esprit.  The concept featured a speed dependent "variable attitude" aerofoil and flush glass all around the greenhouse.  The Lotus 2.2 liter chargecooled engine was the proposed powerplant.  The concept was shown at the Detroit International Auto Show.

Nice looking design, I think if they produced that design now it would not look out of place in the market place, still looks like a modern design, Not over keen on the wheels though.

If they had produced it, I would of loved to see how much a replacement windscreen would of been for this thing from lotus

The Emotion was 1991. The Jag was 1992. Maybe the Jag took its cues from the Lotus.

All we know is that when they stop making this, we will be properly, properly sad.Jeremy Clarkson on the Esprit.

Opinions are like armpits. Everyone has them, some just stink more than others.

I remember going to see the XJ220 V12 at the design centre in London, think that must have been in '88. Fantastic, as is the Emotion concept! Jaguar need to update / fulfil the production run, never mind LW E types!
