Popular Post The Pits
Mine goes something like this: I get a phone call from Roger Moore's agent. Rog wants to borrow my Turbo Esprit for photo shoot, at his house in Gstaad, naturally. On the autoroute down there I happen to meet a 1981 Ferrari 308 and 911 Carrera and blow them both into the weeds. Actually, they both suffer dramatic, smoking breakdowns just from trying to keep up! It's a loooong wait for the tow truck. Arriving at Chez Roger, I see him rush out to meet me with a warm smile and he's all over the car, flashes of nostalgia race across his eyes. "May I?" he asks politely. "Of course Roger, I'd be honoured" I promptly reply. He gets back behind the wheel after many years and recounts tales about the shoot and how they had to ditch all the original footage of the car chase because the Turbos were just too fast for the crew to keep up with. That's when someone had the idea of using the 2CV. He gives me some dusty old film cans containing the missing footage anyway, signed by him, just to say thankyou. He points over to an immaculate white S1 sitting on his driveway. "That one's all yours. Last one to the shoot is a rotten tomato!" he says before lighting up the rears and leaving a long black eleven on his previously immaculate gravel driveway. I'm now following Roger Moore, driving my Turbo, in a white S1 up a beautiful, alpine pass on a fine, crisp Autumn day. We arrive at the shoot at the top of the Susten Pass where Bibs is waiting (no way he'd miss out on this gig! ) and dangling the keys to his brand new 311 loan car. I take that up and down the Pass a good few times (which has been closed for the shoot) while they're setting up the lighting. Then it's back to Roger's for gluvine and Apple Strudel! It just so happens he's invited his friend Sharon Stone who has just arrived in her Basic Instinct black Turbo SE... ahem... I probably better leave it there.... come on, it is a Friday afternoon... ...imagine mountains and sign that says Gstaad!

Jacques
Then that session is followed by an informal invitation at the Lotus factory in Hethel, to meet up with the old Guys who used to make the Stevens Esprits, and funnily enough, stumbleing over a not opened in years storage room. Click click, open and voila, chassis, Lotus branded AP's, complete engines and gearboxes and... the lot en masse. Well, the manager says, "we don't need it any more, so if you want it, we'll be happy to ship it over to you, for your own use as you wish, and we need the space to make the new Esprit ready to go on the market in 2016". I slowly walk around in that large room, drewling all over at the bare sight of all those unused possibilities. Then... "what's under those covers"? I politely ask. Arh, it's just some cars, we don't use them any more. "Do you want us to ship those to you as well"? "Sure", I reply and take a peek under one of the cloths. ARGH! I suppress a scream. Then I use my most calm voice and reply: "Nice Sport 300, sir". "It goes with our former LeMans Esprits. So we'll ship those too, if you care. But we can start them up, so you can take a testdrive at our track, before we send them over to you", they reply. "Yes, please", I reply. Then I wake... Got to go drown myself in a large cup of tea... Nobody does it better... than Lotus. Cheers, Jacques. 1 Quote Nobody does it better - than Lotus
The Pits
Yes! There was definitely a Sport 300 involved in the censored part of my fantasy! Like you though when I find myself in a Sport 300, that's when I know I'm dreaming!
