Exhaust Manifold removal (USA) 1983

Hi everyone,

Looking for some help on removing my exhaust manifold. Right now I have the intake off (carb rebuild) and also need to adjust valves. The problem I am having is accessing he lower nuts.

Has anyone managed to build a wrench that will let you get to them. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hi Jeff,

I bought myself a good quality 3/8 drive 13mm 12 point socket and attacked one side of it with a grinder -see photo's. You then need various lengths of 3/8 extensions, I think I used a 4" and 8" sometimes together. It is very important that the lock tabs if fitted are fully out the way and that the socket fits all the way on - if in doubt make sure - you dont want to round any of these nuts! Turn a bit at a time and reposition the socket with the thin section clearing the manifold. It may help if the extensions are wobble ones.

Easy if you take you time!

I did ok with a flexible drive for a normal power drill withy a small grinding wheel at the end. Had to replace the studs though!
