Auto door locking - Interior/Exterior/Lights/Glass/Alarms/ICE/HVAC - The Lotus Forums Jump to content

My car doors usually lock a short while after the car starts moving, but lately it appear to be rather more random. Anyone know if this is speed or time related? I can't see anything in the revised harness diagrams that relates to this kind of operation at all, though.

That must be a feature of your alarm, it's certainly not standard on any Esprit that I'm aware of.

I have some kind of aftermarket central locking on my car. It likes to lock the doors randomly if I shut the door with the engine running. Hence I always open my driver window....and carry a spare door key in my wallet. The fun of retro motoring!

aftermarket alarms/keyless entry systems use a time function after ign key on to autolock.  all of mine can disable this function by pressing fob buttons in a certain order (as indicated above), each system uses different programming buttons and timings though, so you would need the instructions

I'm not actually wanting to disable the function, just curious as to what triggers the door locking, timer or maybe a motion sensor, as it appears to be random. Sometimes the car will have been running for 15 minutes before the doors lock. I could also speak to META to see what they think, as I don't want the alarm system to be faulty.

I've never heard of that with alarms. Definitely not a standard esprit feature. Do the doors instantly unlock in the event of an accident? (don't test that!) Might be worth some calls to the maker or read the alarm manual.

All we know is that when they stop making this, we will be properly, properly sad.Jeremy Clarkson on the Esprit.
