S1 Dash Query

Recommended Posts

Was at Bristol today picking up parts in the sale, went for an "S2 Dash Mask", bought it and then discovered afterwards it was for Veglia guages (S1?) and morover fuel reading space bears legend "unleaded gasoline only" which leads me to believe could be USA only.

Do any S1 owners (USA or UK) have any photos of their dash display they could email me so I can and try and identify what I have in my hands?

If you PM me I can drop you an email address. Many thanks.

As always many thanks for prompt replies. putting your info together, yes it appears I've ended up with the American S1 Dash Mask for the Veglia dials, and I bought 2! Never mind they were only a fiver each and I got lots of other useful stuff.

Regards

Mat

Think they used a Veglia cluster out of the Chrysler/Simca Alpine (this is a later 1982 version)

Way to go Wayne :D

I have always wondered what the donor car was for the dash... didnt think that Lotus would have done their own dash completely.

It does indeed look very similar.

I would love to see a pic of the earlier car to confirm your idea.

I have been looking for a spare instrument set for the car.

I am building up spares so that as they become more difficult to find we do have some bits to keep the car going.

So as a general point, anyone with good S1 spares drop me a PM

Gordon, this is a 1978 Chrysler Alpine Dash.

I actually had a brochure for one of these cars in a design folder that I put there in 1978! :D

Even more amazed I remembered it was there!:D

Wayne ... you are truly the font of all knowledge... im amazed at the things you come up with :D:huh:

Didnt think you would find a pic of that or enlighten us to what the donor car was... your the daddy

Since you can answer most things i ask, could you tell me what the winning lottery numbers are going to be for this weekend as well :D:P

I didnt think that looked right from the previous pics but based on the last one i think you are right.

Look at the needle on the rev counter and the layout of the warning lamps etc

Well it would look to be the basis foir the dash but then again... rev counter and speedo are arse about face so they would have had to make up a new back shell for that to let the speedo drive through..... unless ofcourse there was another car that had the dials in the right layout????

Did Talbot do anything sporty .... that may have used an oil gauge as well and the same set of instruments ???

Lotus Sunbeam perhaps????

I take it this is what you have?

Gordon, the exact dash cluster the gauges the S1 used was the Simca 1307 which basically was the French version of the Alpine . Lotus must have had Veglia screen there own graphics on to the gauge faces.

I posted a lousy pic of the Simca cluster earlier (but pulled it to post the Alpine one) , here it is again.

Had a feeling it might be the same instruments.... can you remember which way round the spedo and rev counter were?
