EVORA WONT START

Recommended Posts

I have been driving my evora daily, and this morning when going to start it nothing would happen when turning the ignition apart from a primming noise, I usually have the car garaged but for the last three nights its been in the drive way, I'm no sure if it has anything to do with it being very cold this morning at 6am but i have since disconnected my battery and its currently got the tickle charger on it, i have had it on for three hours so far, I'm going to leave it on for around six hours then try re connecting it to see if anything happens,

I don't know if its a faulty battery and its just decided to call it a day or not,
the battery in it just now is ' Bosch 007 S4 Silver '

If it is Bosch then unlikely to be the original battery as they were some other brand I can't remember at the moment.  Bosch was what MMC was recommending fitting as replacement batteries in Craig's day.

However the sudden battery death syndrome I have experienced from an apparently healthy car up to that moment.  Let us know how you get on but I've found the car will usually start immediately on a jump or after only a short trickle when they were doing it. Good luck.

the car is 2010 registered , Does anyone have any other battery suggestions which would fit into the evora other than Bosch ?
Halfords doing one which is 72ah 680A for £85 its obviously there own brand dimensions slightly higher but i reckon it should be ok as well?

If...it doesn't start up once re connecting the current one

I've never had a bad experience with a Halfords battery, my local shop are very good but there are enough horror stories online of them not honouring the warranty on them. Can it wait for you to get a nice branded one from your local factors? If not, the Halfords one will do the job.

Well some good news...after 4 hours on trickle charge, i re connected everything and it started, took the car for a quick run and it was fine...however the ECU light has came on, or do you call it the MIL...so not sure if this will go off its self because both battery terminals have been disconnected or do i now need to take it into murrays ?  I'm not sure what caused the car not to start up in the first place so I'm guessing i am best to go and get the alternator checked to see if its actually charging the battery , if that is fine I'm guessing the battery may be on its way out ?

I feel your pain.

I've had not much luck with the batteries on my Evora.  Currently running number 4 since February.  So much so that I ended up buying one of these which got me out of a hole on a couple of occasions.

I've had the car checked for earths and none found.  My gut feeling is that it was just plain bad luck, so I'm not bent out of shape about it.

I'd be interested to know if anyone with more experience or knowledge than I has opinion on the general lifetime of these smaller "sports" batteries...

Sparky pointed out a battery pack that could jump the car.........

it would fit in the glove box........

The original battery would have been a Varta.  When mine expired earlier in the year I found a thread on here about alternatives and went with a Varta Silver E38 rather than the Varta Blue E43 original.  Identical physical dimensions but higher capacity and longer warranty.  Was £68 from one of the many battery suppliers on ebay and came next day.

My car is mainly weekend use so sits connected to a CTEK battery conditioner most of the time.  The original battery was just over 4 years old when it failed, which seemed to be about a year longer than most people have experienced.  My starter motor failed a few months earlier and RAC measured the battery then at 90% of specified capacity; after it failed it was at 25% so they do have a tendency to go from OK to dead without much warning in between.

I took Laura's MX5 to Halfords to change a bulb (the shame, I know, but it was either let one of those kids shred their hands or take the wheel and arch liner out to do it by the book, £2.95 was good value!) and when I went to drive off, the battery had failed. Then and there, under the orange tent of shame! They do go just like that!

That's more than bad luck Dave! Have you been using the correct polish and wax on them? ;)

I'm still on my original battery, 5 ¹/² years down the line.

No - make me feel better, why don't you? :P

So i went to CMC (Craig Moncrieff Cars) this morning in Edinburgh, and he checked the battery, it was reading 9.2volts when cranking, and higher once the engine was running, he said these should be above 10V and most once 9 or below they won't start so it was clear the battery was slowly on its way out so rather than just chance it i just got a new battery fitted there and then, First time I've seen Craig since he left Murrays and nothings changed, a warm pleasant welcome and anything to help attitude as always, top service as well all know Craig provides, Oh and got a look inside his new unit some simple stunning lotus's inside with a few surprises.....Aston DB6 ! OMG :)

And there was me thinking it was a DB5!  Just had a Google to find out the difference and lo and behold without looking at badges or being a DB Geek you wouldn't know.  Every day is a school day.

Why don't you post up in the Craig Moncrieff review post here on LEGS or the dealer reviews here
