Clutch Fluid Loss

Recommended Posts

Hey All,

I have a mysterious clutch fluid loss problem. It does not happen overnight but over the course of a few months it just disappears. There are no leaks anywhere or signs of fluid anywhere...

Anyone else experience something similar to this?

Look for the leak on the front bulkhead where the master is attached to and maybe under the cyl in the front comparment.

I had that, couldnt see it drip anywhere but I had the mastercylinder seals done same time as the braided clutch hose, when i asked Geoff at Esprit Engineering if it was leaking, 'yea absolutely p#ssing out' was his reply... it would take 2 weeks or so before it needed topping up, its not lost a drop now for the last 18 months.

Thinking about it i'm not sure if it was the Mastercylinder (in the front) or the slave cylinder (in the rear underneath) but its definately one of those thats leaking.

If you havnt already done it get the braided clutch hose done at the same time.

Mine started like that but over time it got worse and I finally managed to find that it was the slave cyclinder weeping fluid. I didn't see it until it got worse and i had to be directly under it before i spotted it. Ended up changing the whole system including master cyclinder and replacing red pipe with stainless braided one. If your motor has the red plastic pipe then it could be that and the leak could be anywhere from the front thru the tunnel and up to the slave? SJ supplied all parts at reasonable cost.

As always thanks for the help. I am just going to go ahead and change the seals....and see what happens. Its an annoying thing now and I can only forsee it getting worse....I already have the SS clutch line....

Have a good one!

I had a problem where my clutch would loose fluid if I parked the rear downhill in my driveway. Didn't see a leak anywhere. Found the leak in the footwell by the pedals. The floor board had a lot of fluid. Turned out that I had a bad master cylinder seal and it would only leak when I parked on a hill. Weird...

It is exactly in this area many find a leak. The foward bulk head in the footwell will conceal a small leak and the carpet padding will mask it. When the leak gets worse it will migrate to the front compartment and begin to remove paint just under the master and brake master cylinders..
