Yellow Peril
Shorai make Lithium Iron batteries which are light weight (2.19Kg) This one is Left + Right - connections and this one is Left - Right + There's tons of lightweight brackets to fit every battery. I found what I needed for my Odyssey battery for the Elise easily on eBay stores.
Chrisc
Thats a very good gain then! Umm cable ties for the mounting being so light, i would have thought you could strap it down with a decent band or velcro strap. Wont go anywhere! Will have a look, as. 1.5 kg for the bracket is crazy!
alias23
Cant comment on the CR model but i've done the maths.. weight/cost and by far the replacement of the OEM battery to a Braille or similar is the best weight reduction per pound than any other modification (ie. carbon rear bonnet, roof, etc...) I guess maybe 7-8 kg ... if you google the weight savings on the CR vs the S one of the main drivers Lotus mentions is a lightweight battery ... whatever that means ... My searching suggest the CR may use the Varta B18 which is an 063 (44ah) equivalent and is listed at 11 kgs. Tthe std cars use a 72ah and the 350 versions list as 74ah and 63ah My owm 360 cup has a Varta E43 72AH at 17.4 KGS
Chrisc
So still not bad on weight, but nothing compared to 2-3kg!
Dani
I mounted a VARTA SILVER 44ah battery as the best money-weight saving value For only 75€ a 8 kg weight reduction No problems with battery autonomy

They even have a battery management system port, which I assume is the cell taps for balancing. Might get one for the Caterham at the very least. Dani
Yes, I think so, my mechanic told me that he adapted the bracket. When I will get the car again I can take a picture of that and upload here.
RedViper
Cheers Dani. I would also be interested to see how bracket was adapted. Do you have a link to which battery you purchased please? I know nothing about batteries, but is there any reason the CR battery (44ah) would not be put in all Exiges and Evoras? Like is there a notice that they need to be kept on trickle charger or something? Edited September 6, 2016 by RedViper

I do not know for the standard but my car came with a trickle charger (straight from Lotus - did the V6 S as well?!?) and there was a clear recommendation to use it ;-) ... I end up after two weeks downtime to put my battery on the trickle charger ... that works fine...

No trickle charger supplied with car or recommendation to use one.. I have one anyway though as car often goes unused for weeks at a time... I know... shame I think I could be tempted by the Varta Silver then given its relatively cheap for 7kg weight reduction Edited September 6, 2016 by RedViper

Anyway, its a 12kg battery (-7Kg) with more than enough autonomy. No charges needed. Here is the official web page: http://www.varta-automotive.com/en-gb/products/automotive/silver-dynamic/ Amazon https://www.amazon.co.uk/C6-Varta-Silver-Dynamic-Battery/dp/B007NY6CQM And here you have a picture (sorry for the quality). Yellow Peril
I don't know what chargers Lotus supply but the best way to keep a battery in good condition is to use something like a CTEK "maintenance charger". I use them and keep it attached and powered on at all times. It only charges if and when it's needed by continually monitoring the battery. That way your battery won't do a total discharge and potentially become unrecoverable.

RedViper
Thanks for that Dani. I checked mine just now and I have the E43 one same as SL. So would be a decent weight saving to fit one you have. Thanks for pic ?
alias23
So just to be clear... The Varta 52ah which can be bought here:https://www.amazon.co.uk/C6-Varta-Silver-Dynamic-Battery/dp/B007NY6CQM Provides a weight saving of circa 7-8KG and retains the existing OEM bracket and requires no full time trickle charger to be fitted - Correct? If so for the sake of £70-80 and the cost saving that is the best bang for buck on weight saving! Quote www.alias23.com
550superfast
All good information and each to their own. I am more interested in saving 15kg or so and happy to spend £500 doing it. I want the maximum weight saving I can get ( within reason) these batteries are way better bang for buck than anything carbon!! However having just bought a Braille battery I am sad to report the uk Braille website is out of date with its pricing! Due to exchange rates the retail price of the GU1R is now £530 + vat and delivery ........

French Frie
a friend of mine has a battery business, but doesn't offer big capacity lithium batteries (yet) ... he was thinking that a 30Ah battery could be sufficient, with a cranking power of 450A (at -18°c)... and this battery may suit the description (sorry, the website is in French) : https://www.bps-racing.com/eclairage-electricite/electricite/batterie/batteries-lithium-12v/batterie-competition-skyrich-lithium-12v-capacite-30-a-h.html and the pricing is very good ! english spoken infos can be found here : http://www.skyrichbattery.com/Lithium-Ion-Battery/c10/p552/HJTX30L-FPLithium-Ion-Battery-YIX30L/product_info.html not exactly same ref, but same features ... it can even be found for less than 220€, with free delivery (in France) : http://www.silverperformance.fr/batterie-skyrich-lix30l-hjtx30lfp-lithium-ion-p-138312.html wondering if the 60Ah max charging can be an issue ... I may have a try, though !
