Exige V6 Dry Cell Battery Recommendation

Plus bracket and fitting. Ohh well, won't put me off.

Worth looking at those Shorai batteries and the maintenance charger. See YellowPeril's post above. The ability to balance the cells and reduce the charge to a storage level is significant and the pricing seems very competitive.

a friend of mine has a battery business, but doesn't offer big capacity lithium batteries (yet) ... he was thinking that a 30Ah battery could be sufficient, with a cranking power of 450A (at -18°c)... and this battery may suit the description  (sorry, the website is in French) :

https://www.bps-racing.com/eclairage-electricite/electricite/batterie/batteries-lithium-12v/batterie-competition-skyrich-lithium-12v-capacite-30-a-h.html

and the pricing is very good !

english spoken infos can be found here : http://www.skyrichbattery.com/Lithium-Ion-Battery/c10/p552/HJTX30L-FPLithium-Ion-Battery-YIX30L/product_info.html

not exactly same ref, but same features ...

it can even be found for less than 220€, with free delivery (in France) : http://www.silverperformance.fr/batterie-skyrich-lix30l-hjtx30lfp-lithium-ion-p-138312.html

wondering if the 60Ah max charging can be an issue ... I may have a try, though !

If that battery can be made to work then that looks like best bang for buck really doesn't it. Will you be trying this?

I suppose I'm like a few people.. id rather be a sheep and do something once somebody else has already done it.

This battery has a greater CCA than the Varta silver used in the CR. Is the CCA the main thing you need to look at? obviously the terminals are different too. also 4.3lb is less than 2kg :)

For my Evora I got several Ultrabatt Multi-mighty battery units and joined them together. It's a modular approach to light-weight Lithium batteries for motorbikes and cars and has proved excellent so far in my car. I made my own bracket with aluminium and a velcro tie and there's a photo somewhere on an Evora forum thread about batteries if anybody is interested.

My searching suggest the CR may use the Varta B18 which is an 063 (44ah) equivalent and is listed at 11 kgs. Tthe std cars use a 72ah  and the 350 versions list as 74ah and 63ah

My owm 360 cup has a Varta E43 72AH at 17.4 KGS

As usual, Dave is correct.  The CR battery isn't that light.  I understand the factory as fitted the Super B lithium batteries to some of the motorsport cars.

I'm going to try this one (3.6kg)…… http://www.super-b.com/en/automotive/sb12v20p-sc

Great ! Thanks for the feedback ... and beautiful bracket :) ! Do you think that the battery can be relocated at the same time, in order to gain some luggage space (even if the fuses panel remains) ? I saw that on a Elise, with the battery relocated in the engine bay ...

Not a lot of space in the engine bay on a v6, unless you start throwing stuff away!!!!!

I haven't thought of moving the battery as that involves possibly new battery leads!!!

That's a very impressive solution. It's a shame the battery is so eye wateringly expensive.

You got any development batteries Dave you want to sell at 90% discount ha ha

Already sold the development battery, it sold to a bald chap with a fat belly who has a silver 360 cup............

Battery does seem expensive but....... How much would you have to send on carbon parts to save 15.8 kgs?

To put that into perspective, the forged wheels are over £1500 + vat as a factory fit option from lotus and save 8kgs!!!!  From a weight saving point of view makes the battery an absolute bargain (do I sound like a cheesy salesman??)

It's a great option to have, I'll be after one if Lotus don't pull their fingers out very soon.

Ha ha. It is a very impressive weight saving like. At least with the wheels you can see where your money has gone. If I told my friends, even the petrol heads I had spent £1000 on a battery I don't know if I could ever live it down

Update:  Just pulled the stock battery from the CupR, weight 15Kg (33 lbs); replaced it with the Super B lithium battery, weight 3.6Kg (7.9 lbs)   ---   weight savings of 11Kg (~25 lbs). :o

Fits perfectly within CupR's battery box using factory mounting strap ---

A friend of mine has been using the Shorai now for a few months with no problem. He has added a cut off switch and turns it off when the car is in storage.

http://shoraipower.com/lfx36l3-bs12-p130

A hell of a lot more reasonable price wise. Its on the list!

@alias23 Imran, you should look into the Super B -- it was "only" 1000 US$ :)

You could call this UK dealer and see what the cost is in the UK ..... +441491822000

Used extensively in motorsport applications...... from their website.....

Applications

DTM Group C WRC
BTCC WTCC NASCAR
LMS GT's GT Endurance

Looks like a decent option. Be good if you could do a little "How-To" when you get one Imran. I think I could stomach about £300. Postage shouldn't be too bad either at that weight.

Be good to get an idea how long it would last without being on trickle charger. Aslong as it lasted 3-4 days that would do me ?

@Jack I assume you're using the SB12V20P-SC

What do you see as the benefits vs the Shorai units? They both appear competent, with the Shorai ones being cheaper and allowing cell tap access for balancing if needed.

This would be the dealer in the UK...  http://race.parts/Catalogue/Electrical/Batteries-and-Accessories/Batteries/Super-B-Lithium-Batteries

@MartynBYes, correct.   The 20P-SC was close to the dimensions of the stock VARTA that came with the CupR, so it fit nicely w/in the CupR's battery box.

I can't provide any meaningful input on the differences between the two brands.  I chose the Super B upon the advice of my race shop.  They indicated that their experience with the Super B over an extended use period in other cars was excellent and that Lotus Motorsport had recommended the battery to them some time ago.

Interesting. Given the fit and that recommendation I totally understand your choice.

Might be worth getting some terminal covers fabricated, maybe 3D printed. Aluminium is much like magnesium when it burns:o

Just finished the bracket for my Braille GU1R. It weighs 380gr. Compaired to the original bracket that weighs 1350gr. :o I think that is a nice saving.

Was that a home made bracket? Or purchased? Looks good
