Driver Training

Hi Guys,

I am keen to boost my driving skills and I would like to understand the basics better than I do, currently I am very good at pressing the loud peddle in a straight line and that is pretty much the limit to my skills   I am happy to work with someone over 6 months or longer to start to see some results.  I would like to learn how to drive quickly in a safe controlled text book fashion and as I am going to spend a reasonable amount of time with the person and be learning quite a lot (hopefully) its important that the persons teaching style is more coaching than telling.

My expectations are probably too high but I wondered if and what experiences any one had that they would share??

Lotus runs driver training days at the factory. No doubt the UK guys will pipe up later about it.

I'm guessing you are referring to 'track' as opposed to 'road' Brooke?

Yes, that makes perfect sense. I am an Instructor for the road only I'm afraid. I'm Fleet Qualified and registered and can coach for both the UK's advanced roads tests - IAM and RoSPA but for what you are after I would suggest you contact CAT Driver training. Highly recommended. ?

I'd second that. I have done the IAM test (and passed!) and also have done a CAT driver training course. They are very good at instructing.

Thanks for the feedback guys I came across cat on my google searches and they looked good, Ian can I ask what is your connection with cat driver trainning?  Also excuse my ignorance but what is the iam test?

IAM - Instiute of Advanced Motorists.

I have no connection at all with CAT Driver Traning other than the fact I attended a driver training day there myself, arranged by Bibs. Very professional and knowledgable, in car and out of car training.

IAM would be a good start. I did it for the Motorbike, they are usually a pretty good friendly bunch.

cool will look for my local Iam then and see what availability they have at cat training.  I think from looking at the site there is a discount if 2 do it so if anyone was thinking about it holla

We have to do driver improvement courses with work every year, in addition my wife is a driving instructor and has done her IAM. Everyone would benefit from further road training.

I recently had a free IAM assesment and the guy said I could pass my IAM test almost immediately. I have decided to do the test but I'm waiting while my daughter has passed her driving test and we'll do it together.

I've done three CAT Driver Training Days at Millbrook and learn't plenty with each one, great guys there and an excellent facility they have the use of too you'll gain skills that can be used on road and on track
