alias23 1,519
Hopefully that will bring down the cost of their existing kits namely the 430 which i've got my eye on 1 Quote www.alias23.com
Riversides150 13
Kudos to KomoTec. That's very exiting news for any Exige V6 owner looking for an upgrade.Im not sure if this has already been posted on another thread ( sorry if it has) , but my only concern would be how the DPM is going to react to all this extra power. Do KomoTec adjust the DPM settings in anyway?
alias23 1,519
From what I hear from existing KT owners, the DPM works fine however it does kick in a little too early as you'd probably expect as you add more power. TBH I find I run with traction off 80% of the time anyway. Quote www.alias23.com

Neal H 899
Is it known what the safe level is for a standard engine? 500 sounds a lot for an engine originally intended to run with 240 - 260hp. I also wonder at what point the clutch and gearbox will give up.

Trevsked 771
I am curious to know if any owners with Komotec conversions have independently had their cars on the dyno and what the results are? I ask as although the engine may well be capable of handling more output I'm doubtful the gearbox is up to the figures suggested or have Komotec go a very soft map? Trevor. We had a customers car on the rollers to identify why it was down on power - once the issue was resolved, it did what it said on the tin. We have probably done about a dozen here in the UK, without any reports of problems. There are quite a few of them out there now, particularly in Germany, though many of the German customers do gearbox upgrades too. Once we finish our rolling road, we'll be sure to get a car or two on for a power run. Dave
Trevsked 771
Dave, Thanks for the reply. So the customer you had in with the problem, which power ouptput version did he have? Also do you know what gearbox upgrades there are for the car? Sounds promising your new rolling road setup, when is that going to be finished? Like a lot of people I do like the idea of more power but do have my doubts about whether the power is there on a hot track day. Trevor. Quote I'll get around to it at some point. I think the problem car we had was on the 410 kit at that point in time (since has upgraded to 430). There are some key techniques to running the V6 cars on the rollers, that I think some people are not aware of, or their environments are not configured for. Komo-Tec now have some modifications to the ratios, but not sure that they do anything in terms of strength and durability. They did mention to me the maximum torque/revs for the box, but I can't remember at the moment. Jubu were claiming a while ago about having a fix for the gearbox weakness, but we've not had to do one ourselves yet. Rolling road should be open to customers around Feb/Mar, after we have spent a bit of time learning on our own cars first! Dave
Trevsked 771
Dave, I bet the rolling road will be hugely helpful in your business and will wait to see results once it's in. Do you know if any of the Komotec upgraded cars are running IPS? Trevor. Quote I'll get around to it at some point.
French Frie 401
Trevor, here's what Daniel Koblitschek (Komo-tec) answered to me regarding the IPS : "The IPS cars have a bit reduced power. Only 412-416 instead of 424hp" and when I asked him if it was because of the gearbox and its own limitations ( sport mode is kept at 6800 max rpm, for example), he added : "The IPS has higher losses so the wheel power is less. The gearbox itself could manage the power very easy. As you know the IPS is not the perfect solution in Exige s if you want to do trackdays.." I'm a bit confused about the answer regarding the first explaination, as I assume the claimed power output is at the flywheel, so even if the power at the wheels is lower on the rolling road obviously, the calculated flywheel output shoud be the same than for manual Exige, by integrating the transmission losses, shouldn't it ? Trevsked 771
FF, Thanks for passing that on and I agree that it's a little confusing but assume that's a translation issue. Trevor. Quote I'll get around to it at some point.
French Frie 401
Trevor, Errrr .... That was his own words, in english ! Anyway, it's a good thing that he offers a solution for ips cars, because french tuners here say that until now, they can't break the IPS part of the software ... Let's hope they can upgrade the shifting times, now ! Even if I must admit that in sport mode, it is not a problem for me...once learned, it's a pleasure, and the trip on Corsica roads was a successful test for me ! PS: BTW, does anybody know if the IPS management is more "hard core" on Exige than on Evora ? It looks so to me, but it may be weight related only ...

We have only attempted one IPS car, but had to back it out as it was a non-standard car that had some oddness about it ECUs that meant it couldn't be reflashed. In general, I believe the KomoTec upgrades can handle the IPS. Dave
Trevsked 771
Ok thanks for the replies. As much as I'm interested in the strength of the IPS I also wonder if the gearbox ECU is programmed to match the standard engine and its delivery. If the engine is producing more power and at different points in the rev range then I assume a certain amount of reprogramming would be required to match these characteristics. Trevor.
