A funny thing happened today...

So I have been looking for spray shops to take on my elite in the last couple of weeks. As my respray date gets closer I have to be more serious about it... So some months ago on a drabby trading estate in my town I found a coach trimmer that did some repairs on my rear seats. He had an e-type in his shop when I dropped the seats off and I have to say it was a peice of art. I happened to notice that he had a window through into another workshop that was spraying cars, and rather expensive ones at that.

I said that I didn't realise that he did bodywork too, to which he explained that it was the unit next door. So made a mental note to drop in when I was more serious about a respray.

Now you have to realise at this point that Wellingborough is not Kensington, Notting hill, or even Camden. In fact most of the people drag their knuckles when they walk. Not that I'm 'dissing the town in anyway you must understand, it's a very nice little town, a bit out of the way perhaps and the, historically poor travel links, might explain why the population decided not to spread the gene pool too widely. I guess what I'm saying is that you really wouldn't expect someone to turn down the job of spraying a car.

Anyway a knock on the door and a brief explanation the the guy that came to reception to greet me by way of "could you give me a rough price to respray a lotus elite" was met with "no we won't touch that".

" oh. Don't you spray glass fibre?"

"No. We only do Aston Martin's"

If it was spray tec they have an impressive website and seem to specialise just in, ......... Astons.........

Indeed it was but to quote the website  "having so many recommendations, our paintwork is often required for other quality marques"

I didn't look them up on the web first though. Spray tec gave me the impression of a spray shop since that is what I saw through the window. I guess I was surprised that, in the humble town that I live, a living can be made from Aston martins

Don't know if it is useful but living in Narfolk we have quite a number of boat yards who have good track record on FB boat hulls. Might be an option for anyone local or to think about if you live near the coast?

I have found another body shop up the road from me that does a line in classic cars which I will use. They had a Marcos in with them when I needed some light body work on my daily driver which is now on their website http://www.rapidvehiclerepairs.co.uk/services/vehicle-restoration
