Help! Boot won't open or close!

Recommended Posts

Hi guys - I've had a quick search through the previous boot threads but I didn't spot the info I need...

Anyway, I went to lock the car, and the alarm through a wobbly because the boot was still open. So I blipped the key to open the boot - the mechanism whirred, and yet the boot stayed firmly closed :(

I dug out the manual and found the boot release - it took a lot of force, but finally it clicked and so I assumed it would now be open. No such luck car reports the boot isn't closed, but it is stuck shut :(

I can't even lock the thing properly as it is unhappy about the boot!

Any help would be much appreciated!

Well, problem sorted! My efforts to lift the boot  while blipping the key failed totally - simply getting my partner to do the blipping while I pulled up on the rather bendy spoiler and it popped open in 2 attempts!

That's how we used to get into the boot during the first European trip we took in it

Once we returned home I could see that the latch on the boot lid itself wasn't moving fully or easily. I sprayed some silicon lubricant into it and it then moved freely so I then put a little lithium grease on it. It's been ok ever since although afterwards I also adjusted the catch in the boot a little.

May be worth lubricating the latch on the boot lid & see if that gets it working properly again

Thanks - I think I saw that in your boot stuck thread :D

It was entirely user error this time - the tube from my tyre inflator had got stuck in the catch! It really needs some sort of a shroud IMO.

First off, the mechanism is crap. I had your fault on my Evora S. Turned out the striker was hitting the plastic surround on the latch. Then the latch broke, to the same effect.

On the GTE something got stuck between the striker and the latch. Since both the electric and manual pull both work on the same striker, there was no way to open the latch. The emergency solution is posted on LotusTalk.
