Hi, i have been looking the internet for lotus's and think they are an amazing car. I have read that they are also very expensive to maintain. I currently drive a BMW and am getting used to the expenses of this car. I don't make a lot of money but would love to own a lotus to drive every other day, maybe 8,000 miles a year. what kind of expenses have you all put into your car and are there any particular year to look for and mileage amount. Can I find a decent car for under $20,000? All you insight would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Anthony Giovanno

G cars can still be found in the 10-15k range, early S cars are coming down. I bought a nice 86 turbo HCI 3 years ago for 10k, it would probably be about 15k now. In 3 years I have probably spent 3000 dollars on the car, about 1000 a year, nearly 1/3 of what I payed for the car.

Most of this has been a lot of clearing up a lot of maintenance issues the previous owner didnt' take care of, the car has never actually been unreliable or broken down on me (though it has sat in my garage for months on end while I was repairing it)

That's my experience anyways... Drive it as much as possible!

I'm sure others will be able to talk about their experiences in terms of running costs too

Welcome to the forum. If you need to worry about maintenance then perhaps an exotic supercar is a questionable decision however they aren't too bad in my experience. Go for it :)
