Shift Linkage

I finished rebuilding my gearbox using parts off of a burned 95 gearbox. However, it appears the 95 gearbox had its shift linkage come out on the right side instead of the left side like my 90 SE. Is this because I have a V8 gearbox or am I just looking at something wrong? Also I should mention that the 95 gearbox has a long solid shaft for the translator instead of the bolted together shaft like the 90 one has. Just when I thought it was all going back together this happens.....

Yes, there was a switch to the right hand side at about that time ('95). My 93 has a left hand side. You will need to get the shorter cables, which are NOT cheap. Better to source used if possible. Unless you can shorten your existing cables (not sure if that is possible or not). The right hand side is the preferred set up, as there is a more positive feel...and the cables are not swinging around in an 'S' on their way to the translator assembly.

What about the bracket that holds the linkage in place? Any idea where I can source one of these (other then Sports Car World). If the right side is the preferred way to go then that is the way I will have mine be, assuming I can figure out what to do with those shift cables.

You can also reuse the tailhousing from your old transaxle.

That bracket is the entire muffler bracket, so you're best bet is to find a used one. List price was over $550 two years ago...

Used Lotus parts in the US are nearly impossible to find.

Hmm the early cars had the cross over cables, the later 4c cars had the straight cables, the V8/late GT3 had a different one altogether !

My SE has the cross overs but the GT3 is right hand side.

The later cars had this :

There is a tie rod coming from the left behind the rear end and onto the translator, is this the one you have ?

If I were you I'd put the SE end cap on the gearbox otherwise you'd be faffing around with the gear cables and the bracket. The right side is better but it's nothing you can't live without for the cost of doing the modification, you can always look for the parts at a later date as well.

I 'might' be making an aftermarket lighter stainless version of this bracket sometime for both types but atm I'm rushed off my feet trying to get things going on the track car project...

The problem is my SE gearbox was smashed up in the rear which included the translator shaft and exhaust bracket. So right now I have the end cap off of a 95 gearbox along with its translator shaft but the cables from my 90 SE...I am beginning to see (like everything else on this car) this is going to be a big hassle. I am going to try and make it work using the right side shift linkage. Since you have a car with right hand shift would you mind taking a picture of the gearbox along with the exhaust bracket and linkage? It would greatly help for it looks as if I am going to have to make up some of these parts myself

Beautiful, now I just need to figure out how to shorten my cables and possibly built that bracket seeing as I found one from Sports Car World and he wanted $1000. I am sorry but $1000 is ridiculous considering it is just a bracket which could be fabricated by a machinist for less then that which is that I might just end up doing.

Already done my man :

I probably have a few more laying around (pictures that is) if you need any help.

Did you point out to Frank that a brand new one is available for less than half of what he's asking? Ridiculous, but most of his prices are...

I refuse to buy anything from him because he has little respect for people that want to buy parts from him and his prices are enormous.
