Well Thomas its faster, will drive better, looks better and IS more exclusive than a GT4 so there's a potential market anyway.

Plus stick the KT 460 kit on it and boy I bet you've got a real giant slayer on your hands.

I'm wondering what the target market for the 410 is. 10 BHP is negligible, less than you can get with any tune. The items removed for weight reasons are for the most part detrimental to road use, as a trackday tool it remains inferior to a properly prepped Exige Cup.

And, it lacks the exclusivity of the GTE.

i was sort of thinking the same... However the car does make sense for the US market alone as they only get the Evora. The Sport 410 will be their Exige and as Lotus will only produce a 150 per year the exposure is pretty limited, the car becomes a collector pretty much right away.

I also see the car as a stop gap for before the true uberevora, it is pretty obvious that the top speed, bhp and torque (186kph) are only limited by gearing.  So should Lotus get a better gearbox the 450bhp package would de facto become immediately available to spawn  a more extreme version of the Evora.

The 410 Sport will also make for an excellent base for the next Evora GT4 basically the same car with more aero bits and the Xtrac gearbox, freeing up 456bhp ; it would make for a very competitive package in the category.

I like it alot. I'm a little surprised after pages and pages of complaints when the 400 was released about the LOTUS lettering on the dash that nobody has mentioned it's missing here :-)

See your point, but Porsche had a similar 10 bhp bump on the 987 Cayman R vs. the 987 Cayman S just as an example, so they are not unique with this. 70 kgs of weight loss is a much more important factor to that equation.

In the case of the Exige Cup vs. the Evora Sport 410 as a trackday tool, I think it´s main selling point is actually convenience. If you are either a bit older/less acrobatic to get in and out or simply too tall to fit in an Exige Cup (I would say 80% of the normal Porsche trackday audience is), then the Evora Sport 410 might offer you something that the Exige Cup simply doesn´t.

70kg is actually a significant figure; it equates to roughly the average weight of a European man (quote from the inter web "The University of Arkansas defines the average all around body weight of an adult to be roughly 70 kilograms"), confirmed on the human body weight page on Wikipedia.

That means Lotus have effectively taken away the weight of an averagely proportioned driver! So with an extra 10 bhp that looks to me like a performance gain of relevance. B-)

What has been the time difference between the launch of the 400 to the 410 now?

I would have thought it was maybe a bit soon?

Really good post Nedasay. Wow, 400 orders for the 400 already from the US - that is fantastic news to be honest and probably equals the total number of Evora's sold in the last 2, or maybe 3 years in the UK!!!

I see your point re the 410 selling well in the US too as I note from other Lotus forums that the US guys are definitely more into "tuning / upgrading" their Lotus cars, and specifically their Evora's, so the lightened and more focused hardcore 410 will be a sound platform for them to build on. They also seem to prefer the stick shift to the IPS too, I think it's more in keeping with them wanting something different from a "foreign" sports car as the US home market has been saturated with auto boxes in their home grown sports cars.

I think the sales volume news for the Evora in the US is outstanding and exciting for Lotus.

400 cars and 50 dealers, that is only 8 car per dealer... The risk is pretty low and the car is very aggressively priced for the US market. Per spec it is actually cheaper than the base 911 that comes without any of the goodies people really want in their premium sports car.  As Matt Farrah said the dealers jus have to let prospective buyer drive the car once. Get 12 people to try the car and 5 people will buy it...

Come on JMG, give us the Evora 450 with GTE body and then you'll get universal praise.  I dare you!

There's still time... It could be there at next year Geneva. The parts are there, they just need enough clients willing to get deposits in. The deposits should cover the cost of the DCT, cause if they were to do it today the only gearbox that could cope would be actually a DCT... So how many people will line up to buy it if it's a DCT?!

The risk on the 410 Sport is 150 cars, 150 cars for 200 dealers, so some dealers will not even see it. The Evora 460 "GTE" would likely be even rarer. And that's the other thing getting the car engineered properly, tested adequately will cost money, not a whole lot but it will not be insignificant. So what will be the break even number?  They can reuse some parts : the wheels arches - both front and rear -  of the Evora 350 GT, but they will need to redesign a lot of them too : front bumper+splitter, rear bumper also.

And actually it's not just about reaching break even point! How many cars would they need to produce to make a profit? The all carbon fiber Evora GTE was estimated at 160,000$ by Car and Driver, back in 2012. Today that would put this car head to head with the McLaren 540C... Should they use less carbon fiber parts they can probably get the car a tad under 125,000$ surely but that is pretty close in price. How many cars would lotus need to sell to return a profit, probably around 80 cars per annum. The 3Eleven Race version is retailing at 115,000£ with a fair chunk of that price being for the Xtrac gearbox. The Getrag DCT will be a bit cheaper if Lotus buys a fair chunk of them..

I just think we will have to wait till the 3Eleven Race version is sold out. With any luck that should not take too long. the 3 Eleven did not cost much to develop, the margins on that car should be "comfortable", as the tooling is not different and many parts including, the engine are shared across multiple cars. It should therefore generate enough profit It to help sourcing  the few parts they need.

As much as I would love an Evora roadster - because then I'd know if I want one - I can't help but think it'll be something else.

Who knows, maybe they'll push the boat out with a concept car (Esprit?) but I doubt it somehow.

I can't help but think what the Evora would be like with a longitudinal V8 and proper gearbox in place of the back seats. That would be special.

But then 95% of the people who have bought an Evora would bitch and moan and not buy one as they all want the +2 option!

I'd buy one though. I'd sell the wife, the kids and the football card collection for one.

In the 70's and 80's and 90's and 00's men where men. The 21's have given us "metrosexual" man. I long for the old days of open shirts, hairy chests and big chains and things.... :)

You'd never have got one of these thinking a sports car needed +2 seats:

If I have read this right is there one more car to come then?

Well the Evora roadster is coming and it may very well come in 400 and 410 Sport versions. If Lotus keeps the same logic the Evora range doesn't have its range toping model yet, the Evora Cup or GT is logically still to come.

However the same can be said about the Exige, right now we have an Exige 350 Sport, the Cup 360 is not in production anymore, so a new Cup would be logical. Besides the Exige 350 Sport roadster still has to take a bow.

JMG announced last year that the Evora roadster would be present at Geneva 2016 but rumours had me think that the car would be in fact unveiled later this year. Now I am very curious to see what they will announce tomorrow. It may very well be the Evora roadster anything else would be anticlimactic except for a New Lotus Esprit - I'm daydreaming. Getting the light of day is going to be really really hard again this year with the supercars (DB11, Chiron, 911 R, Centenario, Appolo...) being unveiled in Geneva.

Be brave - you can do it. Just think of the nice cars awaiting you, the pretty ladies who are paid to be nice to you (at the show) and the many many toblerone and watch shops that you can enjoy.

As always the good old Beeb has totally omitted Lotus from it's article on the Geneva Motorshow, despite the article being about the raft of Sports Cars and Supercars on show. Infact it mentions everyone (even Morgan) but Lotus! Highlighting the fact that Maserati is breaking the mould and going into making an SUV and how Specialist small car makers are bringing out new models.......

Nice to see they support home grown cars!
