Do you have one fitted on your Elite and / or do you know wether it really brings any improvement to the car's handling ?

Didn't the car come with these as standard... I have an elite and the spare tyre hanger is mounted to this.

Mine has the same arrangement - I wonder if cars with an interior spare wheel lost it?

I've got one, but I do have an Eclat and not an Elite.

Both my Elite S2 and the old Eclat Riviera have one.

I don't believe it was for handling, but drive-line vibration, which was a problem the original running gear, and I think only properly resolved with the Excel redesign.

I do have a vibration when I decellerate in 4th gear

I thought this could may be due to worn gearbox mounts but they seem to be impossible to replace without pulling out the engine , gearbox and driveshaft, etc

I will fit this part and let you know whether it improve things

This brace was fitted by dealers according Lotus service bulletin 1979/10, they were fitted to 'reduce over-run and driveline vibration'.

Elites 1494A and from1498A onwards, from516B, 216C,103K and 100L

and Eclat 836D and from 839D onwards, from390E,185F,116P and 103Q were included on initial build.
