Rear seat question Evora 400

Recommended Posts

Hi, I'm still looking...

Question for those with little ones, who have upgraded from an Evora to an Evora 400....what difference have you noticed to the room for back seat occupants? I understand this was one of the improvement made to the 400. I don't expect it to be roomy but I'm wondering if the change is significant enough that you notice it. Lotus hasn't quantified the change in any documentation I've come across so I'm interested to hear real owners experiences?

Thanks

Thank you for the response - I see you have noted that the rear seats are 280mm wider but to your second point, are back seat occupant able to put their feet under the seats because the front seat has been raised? or has the floor been lowered? I'm guessing this will only be applicable to adults whose feet will touch the floor, for small children is the distance from the back seat back rest to the back of the front seats the same?

The seats haven't been raised nor the floor lowered,  just the seats are a different shape which have room for feet underneath.

The rear backrest hasn't moved so dependant on the front seat,  the distances are the same.

I haven't read the review yet ( I will, I promise) but isn't it the case that the new front seats are thinner so there's more room in the back? My Evora in the position I drove has zero rear leg room , in the Evora 400 in the showroom there was about a handswith of rear leg room in my preferred driving position.

  • 1 year later...

Hi - I'm interested in the usability of the Evora 400's rear seats as I have a 14 year old teenage daughter whose about 5'4.

I'm aware of this thread https://www.thelotusforums.com/forums/topic/28630-real-world-useability-of-rear-seats/ on the original Evora but I wonder if anyone can confirm their experience of the 400.

Thanks

Regarding leg room between the s1 and 400. The seat base ends at the front of the rear seat. The S1 rear seats cushion overhang the front of the base by and inch or two. The seat back also looks to be thinner on the 400 than the s1.

Both of these combined makes a difference to the position of the rear passanger. As such I would expect there to be a reasonable improvement. Maybe an extra 1-2 inches actual leg room.

Regret to say that (and I don't understand why) but my 11 year old moaned about the S1, but put up occasionally. She refuses to go in the 400. For some reason whilst more spacious legroom wise the S1 was better for her.

i had hoped the 400 would buy us another year with her in the back, but the opposite happened.

Currently without a Lotus, Evora 400 Hethel Edition in Racing Green with Red leather and 2010 Evora N/A in Laser Blue and 1983 Lotus Excel LC Narrow body in Ice Blue all sadly gone.

Buy a +0 and buy the kids bicycles. Better for you. Better for them. :)

Damn, I'm in a helpful mood tonight.....

I came into this world screaming and covered in someone elses blood. I'll probably leave it in the same way.

I've no experience of the S1 unfortunately, but here's a picture of my daughter in the back of a 400 in case it helps. The passenger seat is slid all the way forward in the photo.

Is that a recaro monza? I tried the young sport hero and there wasn't that much space. I find a cat 1 seat difficult to fit and have leg room for the kid. My daughter ends up having the leg up above the seat but she doesn't complain about it.

Nope, it's a Recaro Milano. I tried the Monza but when it came to it I just couldn't face cutting the access point for the isofix.

The photos below show a comparison between the Young Sport Hero, Monza and Milano in decreasing size order. My 3 year old finds the Milano absolutely fine, the only issue being that when she falls asleep she tends to slump forwards. Not sure that she'd have that issue to the same extent in a bigger seat.

Colin - is this because the seat back on the 400 is more vertical? I got my son to try it with a thin cushion at the base of the backrest and he was much happier and still has the improved legroom. Long term I'm debating getting a custom made cushion that fills the gap between the base of the backrest and the bottom of the cushioned back piece just to support the children's lower backs and put some angle on the seat.

This angle point is exactly the same for the 911 convertibles and makes the rear seats uncomfortable .

Removing the back pad may help, but it was her knees in the back of the front seat, so hip to knee length.

Looking at the handbook for the 400 it says the carpet around the isofix points is perforated and should push back when you put the isofix points in, but it doesn't feel like the carpet on mine is good but anywhere. Do people remove the padding or is there something I'm missing?

I haven't used the Isofix in the back but I do know that there is some movement (forwards and backwards only) in the base of the bench seat carpet. So if the carpet is perforated, it may be the case that the perforation is not directly lined up with the isofix mounting points.
