K-series Engine Reference

Is it possible to glean something about an engine's history from the reference number? Mine is RS118131. Thanks.

Hi Paul

It is, but my Elise S2 engine number is completely different - 18K4KP44 105541. Broken down as follows:

18 = 1800cc

K = K series

4 = Valves per cylinder

K = Multi point injection with catalyst, with VVC

P44 = Lotus engine and gearbox configuration

105541 = engine serial number

I got this information from my certificate of provenance from Andy Graham - Lotus archivist. [email protected]
