How do you remove the rear brake calipers?

Recommended Posts

I am trying to replace the rear brake pads on my 1984 Turbo Esprit.  I cannot figure out how the caliper slides off to change the pads.  I have the repair manual. I have removed the two 13mm bolts and the caliper moves about but I cannot seem to wiggle it free to change the pads.  I know you have to rotate the piston to retract it, but do you do this after freeing the caliper?  Or do I have to rotate the piston first?  If so, how do you rotate the piston in situ?  Access seems impossible?

All you need to do is remove the 2 bolts that you already have done.   You should then be able to wrestle the caliper away from the bracket.  If you can't, maybe the pistons are sticky or the handbrake is on ;-).   Assuming the handbrake is off, just tap with a soft faced hammer to release
