Fuel filler cap removal

Recommended Posts

I have come to the point where I need to remove my filler caps. These have not been off for nearly 40 years... I'm guessing they unscrew from the filler neck but after so long im not getting much joy and getting any purchase is difficult. Any tips from those that have done it before?

Hi Mike, I believe from memory that the fuel filler cap is integral with the neck. You have to undo the clip from the pipe that the neck goes into and remove tha cap and neck as one.

And because of the breather pipe on the filler neck they then have to be twisted to slide them out.  There is a notch in the bodywork under the grommet that is cut specifically for this.  I found it easiest to unclip the grommet from the body on the outside then guide the neck through from the inside.  If that makes sense...

Regular restorer. Rather less reliable forum poster!
