How to install remote lock/unlock on 1994 S4?

Recommended Posts

Looked around and unable to find solution as to How to install remote lock/unlock on 1994 S4

When using the key in drivers door it locks/unlocks the passenger door. What I want is to be able to use a remote to unlock/lock without the key in the key hole..

Looking at my 1994 S4, the drivers door has a plunger though it is buried too deep to access and from what I can tell it is not motorized?

Has anyone else done what I am asking for? I know I could put an actuator on the drivers door which would lock/unlock but the one I tried the motor in the actuator was not strong enough to move the rod. Beyond that the remote lock/unock would need to be I think wired in somehow to turn the alarm on/off..

Thanks!

i'm not up on how you would wire in a keyless entry system. It might be best to talk to an installer of these sort of things.

Would be nice to have.

You already have a central locking module in your car. It's a simple case of swapping this out for a module with remote capability.

hawk do kits on fleabay - they are about £25 - rolling code - come with two remotes, actuators and loads of fittings. You only need the control box, remotes and loom plug. It's a five wire swap job - I did mine and posted up the wiring diagrams.

I can assist but will need to see pictures of your module and specs of any new one you may buy

Can you post the pics and instructions on how you did it here? I searched your posts but did not see any with titles close to this topic. What year is your S4? Thanks!

I can find the picture in my old attachments on here - but can't post the pictures for some reason........

the search function isn't working for me tonight. But it's a hawk kit - and I did mention this in the post. There are pictures of the wiring all marked up

found it

Wanted to test if passenger door would unlock drivers door. Looked in the manual and it says that from the interior, with both doors locked, if you manually (again from inside the car) unlock the passenger door by physically moving the unlock lever, it will unlock the drivers door.

Tested and can hear a definite click of a motor/solenoid in the drivers door but it does not unlock. And then I had a light bulb moment... I had the door panel off and all the attachment bolts off... by having the door handle/lock mechanism not bolted to the door it was moving enough to not unlock when moving passenger door lock.. Put bolts into to open/lock/unlock mechanism and VIOLA! Unlocking via manually moving passenger door lock/mechanism unlocks driver door!

Only thing was when wiring up I had to swap connections for Green and Blue out of the control unit as when doing as pictured in your diagram the key fob lock/unlock were reversed.

Wiring is as thus:

Wires which connected to factory CDL - New Remote Control Unit
Purple  to Red 12V
Black to Black Ground
Orange with White stripe to Blue
Orange with Green strip to Green

The diagram at shows the below connected but when I tested I had not yet connected them and it works so not sure of their purpose? Would connecting them arm/disarm the alarm?
Orange with Blue stripe to Brown
Orange with Red stripe to White

This is the remote unit I bought, $22 shipped. Only parts used is the control unit and remote fobs.
