Got my first ever track day coming soon towards the end of March.

Anyone sorted out their track day insurance for this year?  What's best to go for:

1. insurance for each event

2. Insurance based on expected number of track days - 3, 5, 7 etc.

3. Link it to my normal road policy (which is not due for renewal until April)

Also, who's giving / getting the best deals at the moment.

Thanks for your help.

I came into this world screaming and covered in someone elses blood. I'll probably leave it in the same way.

No use to me Lee just now, as I said, my current road policy expires in April but first track day in March. Good to know for renewal though, so thanks.

One off covers can be expensive.

Try someone like Morris Insurance.

£85 on front page... Suddenly makes £400/yr including 6days look a bargain.

I'm also with CCI

If your TD is in March & renewal April it could work out cheaper to take out a new policy in March and cancel the current one, particularly if you intend doing further TDs., rather than taking out a one off TD cover.

CCI seem to be more concerned about the operator rather than the track and Club Lotus is one of their approved operators.  (Can't comment on other insurers)

Since you will probably need to call the insurance company to put your car on cover you may as well just call them & ask:cry:

I got some last minute insurance for a test day from Morris (my road insurance only covers track days). Was impressed, one call and not the usual scripted questions.

For the Caterham it was a couple of hundred quid, but test days are a lot more than track days.

Next year I am considering just getting regular road insurance and using Morris for the odd track days on the LF1.

Currently all 3 track cars are with Henderson Taylor - 2 with unlimited Trackdays. We're also very impressed with them (one guy).

I've seen that there is a Club Lotus track day at Hethel. Not sure if this would usually count under normal track day insurance because its a "test track" Anyone able to shed some light?

Cheers!

Hethel is not a problem providing the day is run as a track day not a test day.

Most insurers have an approved list of TDO so worth checking. The track being Hethel won't be an issue.

  • 4 weeks later...

Resurrecting this thread as I have my first track day in the Evora at Croft in a couple of weeks, so I'm looking for some insurance as my current road policy doesn't cover me.

C8RKH did you manage to source a cheap quote for your track day?

Best quote I've had so far in £151 from Moris.  Some companies have been unable to provide cover as the car is valued over £25K.

Any recommendations appreciated.

Hi @GlenC I used MORIS in the end too and think it was around the £145/150 mark too. It get's expensive if you do a few track days which is why I made sure I got it included on my insurance renewal.

Thanks for the swift response C8RKH.

Yes kicking myself now as I could have had cover for up to 3 track days included for an extra £300, but I went for a cheaper policy in the end as I thought that sounded expensive at the time

I think I will go with Moris as other insurers are coming back at closer to £200!

Lovely looking motor by the way Glen. The light interior just really sets it off.

Cheers I'm pretty pleased with colour combo but after seeing the quality of your steering wheel re-cover I'm thinking of having mine done with cream stitching and maybe a blue strip to finish off the interior.  Also have a aluminium SR gear knob on backorder to replace the standard egg!

Your wheel looks awesome, who did you use?
