907 engine S1 eclat timing

Recommended Posts

Hi all I have replaced my points set up with electronic ignition ,can anyone advise me as to the best timing set up now as the engine is not happy at 7BTDC where I had it on points. Also on another theme is it possible to remove a driveshaft without unbolting the hub assembly .it looks as if it will come out under the brake drum but if any one has any more info it is much appreciated

I'm not sure I'm fully understanding, so apologies, if I've missed the point to your question, but you undo the 4 bolts into the drum from the inboard flange on the shaft, crack the hub nut off and push it out the spline of the drive flange. When you say "unbolting the hub assembley" I'm assuming you mean remove the lower stud from the alloy hub carrier - which can be a pain. The answer is no, you don't need the stud out.

Have a look in the archives - I wrote a thread and put some pictures up which may help.

cheers

Regarding your first point, I set up my electronic ignition up at 25 degrees BTDC at around 3,500rpm (according to the wife that's what it was at - in reality could have been anything!) and that settles down to about 8 or 9 degrees at 900rpm. Hope that helps a little :)

What's yours doing at 7 degrees? Sounding like it's breaking up?

yes sounded awful but have another problem to solve before resetting timingthe fuel pump is running and pumping but no fuel is reaching the carbs .plenty of fuel coming out of pump when I take the pipe off but it is not getting any further. Ah the joys of a lotus eclat
