What did you have before/after?

Recommended Posts

I'm curious - people who own an Evora, or used to - what did the car replace, or what did you replace it with?

I find it interesting sometimes as some people have an obvious progression with cars, others less so...

So, what did you have, or sell the Evora to get?

I had a BMW Z4 M Coupe for a while. Interesting car, absolutely stunning when pressing on - but utterly terrible when just bimbling about.

Bimbling about was what the smoker was for.

Off topic:

Is that an F55 in your profile photo?

See I am looking at other alternatives, like the Jaguar XKR-S. But for all of its power and torque, it's actually not as quick as an Evora, probably not as much fun, almost certainly terrifying in the wet and cold - but most likely a much nicer "place to be".

That being said, Lotus interiors appear to have come on leaps and bounds in recent years. I would say they're now better than a Ferrari interior circa 2000

Man Maths dictated a major reshuffle of the fleet so out went the practical dog-carrying Alfa 159 Sportwagon (it was really too good for those sorts of duties) to be replaced by an old diesel MG ZT-T and I also said goodbye to an owned for 34 years Triumph TR8 Drophead (genuine factory one, not a conversion) to make room in the garage for the Evora.

I had an Evora (which replaced a Mk2 Focus RS). I've owned numerous Elise based cars over the years so I'm not new to Lotus. When buying the Evora I did briefly consider the Jaguar XKR, Aston Vantage and Maserati GranTourismo, but I think I was always going to buy the Evora!

Circumstances subsequently dictated that I needed something practical as a daily driver so I bought a Freelander 2 and rather than keep the Evora as a second car, I part-ex'd it for an Exige S Roadster to use as a weekend toy. I loved my Evora and will happily own another.

Lexus isf before as an all rounder.

Now have the Evora as a toy and a Toyota auris as a mule.

Who knows what's next.... Certainly no plans to move on from the Evora as it stands. Will be very hard to find a replacement if I do.

I love car history threads!  (I am a little sad like that - sorry!)

Midtec Spyder (Lee Noble designed kit car - off the road in my parent's garage until I stop buying Lotus cars and have the money to do a bare chassis restoration) Its basically a lighter version of an S1 Elise (contentious I know) but is as ugly as sin.  Road holding and steering feel are off the charts though.

WRX saloon - awesome car, shouldn't have sold it

350Z - lovely GT car; drove from Essex to North Scotland one day, and back the next, and it was a walk in the park

Audi S3 - terrible car, shouldn't have bought it

Fiesta 1.4 TDI (2002) - surprisingly fun, and 70 miles to the gallon!

Clio 200 - fun for 9 months.  Was liquid yellow though which is sensational

Honda CRV - is it normal for you to bash your shin on the dashboard every time you change gear ...? I wasn't a fan

Elise S Club Racer - still own and I will be parted from it over my dead body!

Evora 400

To cover all my Evora's, my list would go like this starting with the car prior to my first -

Audi B7 RS4

Evora S

Aston Martin V8 Vantage

Evora S SR

Evora 400

:)

Oh I thought we were only doing interesting cars either side of our Evora ownership, not everything! Ok, prior to the above mine would also be -

88 Honda MKII CRX 16v - My first car and one that I had lusted after for years

90 Honda MKII CRX 16v

91 Honda MKII CRX V-Tec

Lotus Elan Turbo SE

Honda Integra Type-R

91 Honda MKII CRX V-Tec

99 Honda S2000

2003 Honda S2000

2007 Honda S2000

Porsche 911 Carrera 4S

Then it was on to the list given above. I've had quite a few other cars as well, but nothing deserving of a mention in my eyes. And yes, I did have a major thing for Hondas as a younger man, as I'm sure you might have noticed!

Looks only a mother could love!

Amusingly though, especially given what I drive now, when I was driving the Midtec I test drove an S1 Elise and found it less involving!
