Hi folks

i am searching a exhaust for my Exige V6. The sound is excellent and it looks great..

Now we have diffent obtions. Larini, 2 Bular, Komotec etc... Well I thought its possible to put the evora 400 exhaust on my exige v6? Theoretically it should be possible...

what do you think? has anyone ever tried?

thanks

BR

It'll fit. The rear silencer bolts straight on,  the Y pipe from the manifolds too but the J pipe will require some fettling as will the undertray.

Depending on the work involved I don't think custom exhaust manufacture is too expensive as long as you don't want titanium welded Moto GP stuff

That's interesting Bibs , as I was told by the parts guy at Murrays that the diameter of pipe was totally different and no way it would fit

No offence but he probably assumed that rather than asked, I got my info from a good pal at the factory. The engine and manifolds are the same, no reason why the pipes from the 400 wouldn't fit just because they're a bigger bore further down the line.

It will fit. But only if you fit everything from manifolds back. The different sections aren't 'plug n play' due to the difference in diameter. Therefore, the whole exhaust will probably cost you £4k+ (I don't think that Ev400 parts prices have been released yet).

This info came from a conversation about my Evora S with Motorsports.

To be fair to Murray's it depends on how you phrased the question. If you asked "Can the Evora 400 silencer be fitted to an Exige S" - then the parts guy correctly said no. It can't, that particular component is not a straight swap as the diameter is different.

A lot of people (not just you) assume that a dealer/parts outlet would know the answer to this and other component related question, but why? They didn't design or engineer the part and it's unlikely they've even worked on something this new. Their safest assumption would be to say no it doesn't fit. Also, it could be just "a job" to them so don't understand there's an underlying question you've presented them with. Personally I think forums like TLF are the best starting point for a question like this as they tend to be full of similar minded people who want to dabble in what is potentially viable. You can then go in to a dealer armed with a mored detailed and loaded question.

Yes but it would have been good business practice for him to of said " I will find out for you and call you back if it can be done "

2BULAR on order now

Oh, I forgot to add that it would also require a custom re-map. Lotus (or Motorsports) don't have a map for the 400 exhaust on an S engine so you would have to get a specialist to do it. Budget an extra £1k at least, I'd imagine.

Why would it need to be re-mapped?

The considerably bigger diameter/bore leads to a lower back pressure, IIRC. This will produce an EML.

(The same applies when the fairly restrictive OEM manifolds are replaced with a decent, aftermarket alternative).

I can't imagine which sensor measures back pressure. I've changed exhausts and added cat bypass/sports cats on a good number of cars and haven't had an issue, that's all.

Just passing on the gen from my conversation with Motorsports. Although it might have been 'may put on an EML so will probably need a re-map'. But because nobody has tried it yet, someone has to pay for the 'R&D'. I was no longer keen at that point due to the costs involved (and have gone down a different route).

The thing is, while I agree that the 400 sounds awesome, if you fit it on an Exige you are basically giving up trackdays in the car. And I would rather do trackdays - the car is amazing on track.

I think Greg's 400 has been clocked at 108db static. That will get you thrown off every single track in the country, apart from a few unsilenced days at Donnington possibly. I just don't think it's worth it.

So the Evora400 is by default pretty much not fit for UK track days?

Yep, at the moment.

Although Motorsports are currently working on a solution for this. (Ask Bibs).

I'm not sure how they are going to do it. I believe that every 3 decibels or so represents double the loudness. With most tracks having a limit of 105 static, the solution has to make the 400 half as loud as it currently is. And to make it quiet enough for Bedford, it has to be 4 times quieter. I dont think that is going to be easy.

I asked JMG in my one-to-one in Dec and that what he told me. I can ask for more details on Monday if you like.

I'd be interested in knowing more. I want to have a go in a 400 round a track but I just can't see how a removable extension to the silencer will cut the noise enough.

"...but I just can't see how a removable extension to the silencer will cut the noise enough." Who said that was the solution? I suspect that Motorsport are designing a new silencer.

If you're close enough to Hethel, the LDA offer an Evora day (with some sessions around the track and a tour of the factory etc). You won't have (m)any issues with noise levels there.
