Fuel flap solenoid onS4 not working

Hi all, not looked at problem yet,I know the way to reach in to the solenoid "lever" but which way do you move it,pull,push,left or right. I have searched this site and looked through my workshop manual but can't find it.I know I've seen it somewhere.Thanks for any help

Pull the whole arm towards the front of the car. If you look at it this sounds crazy as it's cranked to the side, but that's how mine works anyway

On my SE you pull the lever linearly parallel with the body of the solenoid, toward the rear of the car. 

Mine were clicking, bt not releasing the door,  I had to lube the shaft of the solenoids, and the release latch at the door.  Now they work fine.

Yes, pull the lever towards the back of the car.

one of mine wasn't working but it turned out to be the  switch under the dash so definitely worth checking that too...

When mine didn't work it was a loose connection on the solenoid. The wingnut which holds the solenoid and the earth wire was loose.

Thanks for all replies,light finger pressure pull a few millimetres backwards.I took the screw out of the plastic housing insert under the flap and pulled it out.Is the plastic "barrel "that the cable end inserts into and passes through,an integral part of the plastic housing as mine is a separate piece?Is it broken off?
