TPMS Question - warning light

Recommended Posts

Good Morning,

some drives ago when I started the car in the morning, temperature around Zero, the warning light went on and the little warning beep occured. Pressure might have been a little low due to the low temperature in general, but after driving the tires warmed a Little up and esp the 4 gauges showed normal pressures. Since then driving ca. 3 times in the last 3 weeks the light goes on after every start, immediatly, after driving 15 meters the beep occurs....I have checked the pressures at the gas Station, evrything fine, also the 4 pressures on the dash are ok, but before the "first Event" the 4 pressures occured after ca. 5 minutes after a start (before 4* "--"), n o w they are there right after the start and start to Change "normally", pressure going up, after some driving.

Worth checking immediatly at the Service Point or is it enough to check next within the next Service( may / june), Car is MY 12 Evora S

Any thoughts welcome!

I run mine lower than stated in the manual, if they drop below the bottom limit it triggers the alarm. Even if they warm up and the pressure returns to 'my' normal it does not reset. I pump them back to factory settings and run for a few miles. Try over inflating them to see if it helps them reset.

Hi @21gg

Many thanks - Sounds similar :-), I will try! Also phoned the local Service Partner and they said without any sign of a "really" low pressure issue / damage we can check / reset this within the next Service.

just to complete the Story: yersterday while driving the yellow light disappeared, today in the morning the System "resetted" like normal, after starting the engine the 4 "--" appeared (never in the last two weeks...)

I guess a Little bit the Lotus selfhealing System :-)

Is the TPMS in these cars an actual pressure sensor in the tyres, or is it just going on rotations like some of the older BMW systems?

I had the control unit for the TPMS replaced at the 1st year service after having the warning light on virtua

ly since new 20 miles later I got the warning light again. in 8k miles of motoring I reckon maybe 200 have been warning light free.............

update: the light disapeared, than came back (tire pressure unchanged ...), today at a short stop at the Lotus Service Point (15 km away the light disappeared......) no tmps error in the "error list"...hmmmm, will see...Software update for the whole car will be installed within the next Service anyway..........

Funny enough I've had similar problems with the factory fitted TPMS. But no issues with my 2nd set of wheels with sensors fitted by my local tire shop. I've read somewhere that having metal valve caps (such as those with Lotus logo) could upset the TPMS. Not sure if there's any fact behind it though. I've haven't bothered trying with and without.

They can corrode onto the valves and make them impossible to remove !

Turns out this is actually mentioned in the service notes as well.

Regarding error codes there should be error codes according to the same:

Quote

 TPMS fault codes

On detection of a fault, the TPMS integrated diagnostics will set an appropriate code which may be read

using the Lotus Techcentre:

C0550 TPMS ECU Failure

C0551 TPMS Module not programmed with Vehicle Configuration

C0558 TPMS Vehicle Sensor ID's not programmed

C075A TPMS Pressure Sensor LF Malfunction / Battery Low / Broken Shock Sensor

C075B TPMS Pressure Sensor RF Malfunction / Battery Low / Broken Shock Sensor

C075C TPMS Pressure Sensor LR Malfunction / Battery Low / Broken Shock Sensor

C075D TPMS Pressure Sensor RR Malfunction / Battery Low / Broken Shock Sensor

C0777 TPMS Sensor Autolocation Failed

C0800 TPMS Module Supply Voltage Below 9V / Above 18V

U2103 TPMS Communications Malfunction

In the first instance, the car should be driven gently at 40 mph in order to optimise conditions for sensor

recognition. If the fault persists, the following action should be considered:

550/551/558 – most likely a TPMS module problem; renew

75A/B/C/D – most likely a pressure sensor; renew

777 – Most likely the module but could be a rogue sensor

800 – Check supply voltage and ground connection

U2103 – Could be module, CAN cable connection or engine T4e controller

They are actual pressure sensors.
