Lotus Service / Repair, Adelaide, South Australia

Recommended Posts

Hello there,

After 12 months of searching, I recently found and purchased a very nice 1978 éclat from Melbourne, Victoria, Australia.

I decided I would drive the car back to Adelaide, South Australia (726km). I was travelling in convoy with my wife and daughter in another car.

We decided to stay at Halls Gap overnight (606km to Adelaide). Beautiful spot, absolutely crawling with native Australian wildlife.

The following morning we left early, as the sun was coming up. We had a big travel day ahead of us.

We decided to go through the Grampians. This is where the éclat came alive. An absolute thrill to drive through the sharp twisting turns.

The morning sun was flickering through the trees, when all of a sudden, BANG! I had hit something, powering out of a bend. The car launched into the air.

Luckily my wife wasn't tailing too close, as she had time to stop, in the other vehicle. I had no Idea what I had just hit. I pulled over and jumped out of the car. There was a poor kangaroo, laying there growling at me, in the middle of the road.

We dragged him off the road. Unfortunately he didn't make it.

I turned my attention to the car. Luckily very minimal damage. Smashed spot light, paint damage to the bumper bar. Then I noticed the green stuff leaking out of the cooling system.

As we hadn't travelled far, I decided to quickly drive the car back down the hill, while it still had some coolant in it. I couldn't believe that I had picked the car up the afternoon before this incident. Luckily I had insured the car before I picked it up. I haven't yet had a chance to really enjoy it. This happened 1 month ago today.

I have been looking for general parts here. I have realised how rare these cars are here in Australia.

Does anyone know of a Lotus specialist here in Adelaide, for servicing and repair?

Regards,

Ash

I just had mine serviced (major - belts / coolant) by the guys at Sovereign Britparts in Kent town.  They specialise in all British marques.  Very wise and knowledgeable. 80 King William St, Kent

Welcome to TLF Ashley.   There is also Steve Taylor of Lotus Marques in Melbourne. Also very knowledgable and helpful. Your photo looks nice in black and white, but some colour ones would no

No probs.  Back to the original question.  There are no Lotus specialist workshops in Adelaide, well not that I've seen in the last 10 years.  The best guys are the 'older' British car specialists.  I took my car to the 'lotus dealer'  here in Adelaide many years back and he didn't even know the car was a Lotus...

You should duck over to the Introductions area and say hi in there as well.

All we know is that when they stop making this, we will be properly, properly sad.Jeremy Clarkson on the Esprit.

Opinions are like armpits. Everyone has them, some just stink more than others.

Nice to meet you Ramjet,

Thank you for your advise. I should get my car back in a few weeks. I don't have many pics at this stage. I will be sure to post some soon.

I've just joined Club Lotus Australia. I met with the guys on Sunday (in my daily drive), to introduce myself. Hopefully I'll be joining them for next month's run.
