Converting to wheel studs?

Recommended Posts

Has anyone here fitted wheel studs? I've seen them at sector111 but the total cost incl. shipping, toll and VAT becomes ridiculous. There are some available at Demon Tweeks as well but I need to figure out which dimension. Thread should be M12x1.5 but then the question remains about the length. 70/90/100 mm?

I presume you are converting from wheel bolts to wheel studs and nuts?

I would ask why?

All we know is that when they stop making this, we will be properly, properly sad.Jeremy Clarkson on the Esprit.

Opinions are like armpits. Everyone has them, some just stink more than others.

Makes it easier to change wheels when you don't have to hold them in place while fitting the bolts. Balaning them on the small hub flange while rotating the wheel to find the holes for the bolts is something I would like to get rid of.

And yes, I do change between track and road wheels quite frequently.

I use these to get around that problem. Easier & cheaper than converting all the studs to bolts, just need to select the correct fitment

That looks like a far cheaper and easier alternative Paul. Even I, with my limited spannering expertise would see how that would work. I'd be tempted to just find a piece of bamboo or twig from the garden though and just push that it and hope for the best. Would do the same thing and be OK as long as the bamboo/twig did not break off inside the hole!

Only joking, of course I'm not that stupid....... reallly,  errrr, would save me a tenner!

I came into this world screaming and covered in someone elses blood. I'll probably leave it in the same way.

Would still be too dear at a fiver for  Andy

What he really needs is an accountant to provide him with a spreadsheet showing him the way forward :whip:

(of course I should have said in my post "converting bolts to studs" not the other way round)

Lol - Money is not the problem, technical / spannering skills is the only issue for me. Personally i think these are much better and neater idea than changing the whole studs to bolts....

The only good accountant is a Lotus driving accountant, the rest, meh, now where did i put that field....

Digging up this thread but...

@CaptainSlow did you ever fit wheel studs, in place of your bolts?

This has just caught my eye: http://www.seriouslylotus.com/v6-exige-and-evora-wheel-stud-kit Thoughts, anyone?

No, on my list for this winter together with some other upgrades. Wonder what length the Seriously Lotus studs are. I couldn't see any details on their website.

In the end I ordered a set from Gregs Race Parts at the same time as ordering a new master cylinder. Just picked them up at the postal office so not yet fitted.

Will report back in this thread once fitted.

Aren't you going to trade in your Evora for an F-Type?

Most likely, have to sell it first... The market in Sweden isn't massive. Since I've made some light track day modifications I belive this one goes nicely with that theme.

You may find the 19mm nut difficult to use with the Lotus wheels, the bore for the nut in the wheel is quite small, hence whty I use 17mm wheels nuts

overall 75mm, as used on my S2 circuit Exige and shortly on my 360 Cup

Do you offer shorter wheel studs  ?

75 mm studs seem very long for stock wheels with no wheel spacers, when 45 mm studs will come flush with the end of the lug nuts.

Follow-up on this old thread. This is what it looks like once fitted. Now I also have a 7/32 size allen socket in my tool box... Not the most common on tis size of the pond but I managed to get hold of one in the end.
