BOE CAI - anyone using one?

Recommended Posts

There is a great and long thread in the USA site about this CAI and seems it makes a few ponies but more importantly cools the engine better, improves engine sound and doesn't need a map to fit it.

Anyone running one?

Hmmm ok. Only way you would know is to dyno the car. The komotec one requires a ecu map to optimise the afr which bumps the cost up a lot. Almost to the point I would rather save up longer and do the 390 conversion.

I have one, but never got round to fitting it. Bit worried if it's going to do less than the OEM unit -how would you know?

Would you sell it to me?

I've seen a fair few negative remarks about the maf sensor readings with the Radium intake, but I haven't seem anything negative about the BOE. I guess if people have been using the BOE intake for a couple of years without complaint, it can't be bad. Like you, I'd like to be very confident it's going to work well.

I must admit I'm not too worried about BHP gains, I'm just looking for a bit more noise!

Are you sure it needs a map Stu? Could Dave from Hangar 111 confirm this please?

I came into this world screaming and covered in someone elses blood. I'll probably leave it in the same way.

Wow, thanks for clearing that up so quickly Dave. I'm still looking at the EV300 with this KT CAI, but am just doing some re-trim work first, then I'll be down for it, as discussed.

No idea if it produces more or less power, but it does sound fantastic.

I've had one on my n/a IPS for the best part of two years now, and not noticed any ill effects. Only thing I don't like is a slight whistling on full throttle with the passenger side window down.

Sorry Stuart, planning on fitting it this summer. If I can find a dyno within an hour of me, I'd be happy to get before and after tests, but having said that, not sure I want to know how the real BHP of my car -ignorance is bliss I guess.

cool! Look forward to the findings. Understand the not wanting to know element. I am exactly the same! May put evil money spending ideas in my head in terms of komotec upgrades to boost power of its down from where I would expect it to be.

i can see you are in Kent but it would be worth the drive to hangar111. Their dyno will be running by then and many places don't have a clue how to use them.

Not a BOE but I have had a Radium on my NA for 2 years now and I love the thing.  Definite power pickup and great sound to boot.  Haven't had an lean codes either.  The only individual I know of that has had a big problem with it attempted to fit it to an S.

I've finally given up on CocoPop's ITG intake, sadly.

The good news is I've just ordered a BOE intake :D

We had a play with removing the resonator from the standard intake this morning, and I couldn't really hear any difference, so that finally made my mind up.

I. Can't. Wait.

Apparently it releases a fair few ponies in N/A cars. I have not heard back following my enquiry about price to ship to the UK. Any idea what you will end up paying after import duty?

This is directly pasted from my invoice. No mention of import duty, so I assume that will be applied when it comes through Uk customs.

Subtotal : $495.00 USD

Shipping : $135.71 USD

Total : $630.71 USD

Carol at BOE has been very helpful with my emails today, and she tells me I should get my package on Friday.

I'm looking at the carbon Komotec one as it will probably end up being cheaper than that, or about the same cost. And it looks fab!

Expect to pay another £97 in Import duty and tax, bringing the total cost up to £535:

Oh, not forgetting the admin fee that the carrier is going to charge you for the privilege of processing your duty/tax. So add another £12 - 15 to that, bringing the total up to £550.

If you do this, then, as I understand it, the ECU will take time to adapt, so if you're thinking of doing the dyno run immediately before then immediately after fitting, this won't tell you what you want to know. A hundred miles would do it, I guess - perhaps somebody who knows about these things can let us know.
