Fire Extinguishers...

Realise theres a whole host of posts ref hand held fire extinguishers being close to useless (albeit better than nothing), but what plumbed in systems are available for the V6?

Seems as though two types - Mechanical and Electric. Without stating the obvious whats the difference in benefits...

Mechanical means you pull the handle, i.e manually and this opens the valve via a cable and electric means you press the button and the system is operated,  we used to have fitted to military vehicles a thing called fire wire, in the engine bays basically when the outside of the wire had burnt away it operated the fire system automatically, not sure if this stuff has reached the car market yet, but it should of done as it was many moons ago.

I personally would go for the mechanical as i would think it would be safer and less prone to failure, a cable does not have the chance of having electrical gremlins when you need it most. !

Electrical all day for me, cables can seize up when not used often and a mechanical system will require more rigorous checking and maintenance imho. Electrical much neater install as you have to run two cables free of kinks from both internal and external sources to the bottle, can look messy inside a cabin of anything but a race car...

 

In either case, In a severe fire even a plumbed in extinguisher is only going to offer a few extra seconds in order for occupant(s) to get out of the car, it's not going to save the car!

Yes fiberglass does like to burn quite quickly, Slighty off subject but fire related, when i last purchased some fiberglass supplies for the car, the chap threw in some fire retardent flow coat ?  Was he taking the piss  ?

That looks quite neat, does it annoy your passenger at all?

I've been looking at extinguishers, and I'm well aware of the limits of dry powder but i think something is better than nothing. Has anyone got any experience of aerosol generators? They appear quite effective, compact and low maintenance.

I have installed it due to the "legislation" It's mandatory for some trackdays.

The fire eaters do get great reviews. I was in talks with the manufacturer as they sell them in bulk only. If enough people are interested happy to work on a group buy.
