Deaf in one Ear

Guys....

Been poking around in the engine bay for a few days now and noticed the left side ear is a fake one!!!

Anyone cut theirs to make it functional and added additional ventilation to the engine bay????

If I am not mistaken, I think Federal S2s use one ear for fresh air intake and the other to extract heat, aided by a blower motor. Trevor? Shah?

Left ear on the Federal Turbo Esprits is functional.

It usually supplies cold air to the engine cover ducting to the fan over the carbs.

Mine is now supplying cold air to my intercooler (via a fan and shroud)

That's right, Tony. The left one feeds air into the boot. The engine draws that air through a grill in the other side of the boot. A motor beneath the right, rear quaterlight draws air from the engine bay and blows it out of the right-hand ear. The motor is controlled by a bi-metallic switch on the air cleaner so it comes on only when the engine bay gets hot.

The idea is to keep the back of the car ventilated and stop the rear screen fogging up all the time.
