Alpine unit list GPS signal

The Alpine unit in my GTE thinks I am in Paris and it also thinks that the GPS receiver has been switched off. Clicking the button on screen to switch GPS on does nothing. I have checked through every setting on the system and read the instruction book but can't see anywhere to switch the GPS receiver on. I am thinking that it must have become disconnected. Anyone else had this problem and know what the solution is. Where is the receiver located?
