I use the K+N which I ordered from PUK and have also made the ram-air mod to the trunking. It may or may not have gained any extra bhp (I doubt it!!) but the added noise is fairly pleasing.

No rain issues with the ram-air unless you're thinking of crossing the Channel the hard way! :o

Alessandro,

That looks like the one. You will need to remove the rubber seal from your existing filter and put it on the K&N. The K&N is miles better than the stock unit. The car should feel and sound like it is breathing easier.

With the Ram-air that was one of my concerns about the effect of heavy rain. However, I've driven in some horrific down pours on the motorway at speed without any disernable negative effect.

I would highly recommend both modification. :D

Hi

Is this the filter K&N???

please confirm if this is ok

Alessandro,

According to the Parts Cross-reference guide (see first thread in this series), the K&N part # is 33-2784. It costs about $50 here in the USA. (K&N does NOT reference it for a Lotus, though. As I recall, it is for a Volvo.)

These are the two K&N filers I have found for the Esprit 4 pot...so are they the same part? as one seems to have a bigger metal frame,,,I would have thought K&N 2 would be better? Any thoughts?

Not familiar with #2; I have #1 in my car. But if #2 fits, then why not use it? What K&N part number is it?

Alessandro, the only other part you'll need is the rubber gasket from your OEM filter. The K&N does not come with that. Just peel it off the OEM and place it back on the K&N. Should take about two minutes.

I have #1 as well.

Along with that and the exhaust I dynod a stock GT3 at +20hp

#2 looks like it can flow more air due to the middle spar missing

The only reason to fit the metal frame one is aid of fitting in my opinion, the wibbly wobbly one was a pain in the bum to keep inside the filter box.

The middle of the frame does help stop the element colapsing inward but the other one with the metal surround should be fine.

Carl, I will second that opinion as I have just bought #2 and will find out for definate this weekend if that is the case. I bought #2 from Esprit Engineering and he assures me that it is an exact replacement for the current filter. If you look on the LEW website under the filter replacement in Mods, it shows the normal filter with one side that looks like #1 and then turn it over and the other side looks like #2. I am hoping this is the case

Not sure you understood. I beleive by law K&N had to stop making #1 because the metal frame was a direct copy of another original manufacturers part. Information about this is on LEW, and as a result K&N filters for our cars were supplied without a frame, hence Jonathan's wibbly wobbly comment.

I assume #2 is simply a modified frame for no other reason than the fact they were forced to stop producing #1.

This is an urban legend. #1 and #2 are photos of the same filter. One view is from the airbox side, the other view is the engine side.

I have just fitted my filter tonight and it is confirmed. The filter from Esprit Engineering is #1 onside and #2 on the other side. It is a direct swop!. Runs lovely and the first addition to my car.
