Fuel tank removal

Question

Okay here goes for my first dumb question... on an S1 do I need to get the body off the chassis to get the fuel tanks out or is it possible to wiggle 'em out in situ? Thanks :o

wiggle 'em out in situ. as taking the body will not help in any way. if you remove the rear 1/4 windows and the fuel filler pipes ( just the rubber bit from the filler to the tank ) and remove the carpet covered wooden panel floor and the shelf by the 1/4 window, this will give you the room you need to get the tank out Drivers side is the easier of the 2. under the car between the chassis and the body there is a big rubber gromit 3 or 4 inch across pull that out and it gives you acess to the bottem of the fuel tank ( 1 each side ) so you can remove the fuel pipes. if my memory is right there is only 2 bolts holding each tank in 1 is Nr the big gromit and the othere is under the rear wheel arch.

P.S. remove your rear hatch before you start just gives you more room to move about when doing the job.

hope this helps you.
