Driver Seat rocking on runners

Recommended Posts

So it seems the problems I found in my 2008 2-11 re the seat rocking , due to poor design of seat runners, still hasn't been fixed 8 years on :(

Found my current car seat also rocked back and forth, so was taken in for warranty runner replacement.  The first replacement was exactly the same, and guess what the 2nd replacement once again is crap !   How lotus can't get a basic seat runner to work in a £50-60k car is beyond me !  With the seat out you can see how much movement there is at the front mounting points as they slot into main runner.    I would have thought some plastic inserts into the sliders would have stopped this play ?

As I have the seat fully back I thought I might as well swap seats around with the passenger side (fixed).  Unfortunately the passenger side fixings are angled to the left side.  Any idea where I could get a LHD passenger fixed runner from please ?

cheers Dave

It seems to be endemic.

I replaced the runner in my Elise, only for it to start rocking again within weeks. The brand new V6 drivers seat did the same within a month or so of ownership.

Car is in for its first annual service, and the seat is one of a few issues that I asked to be investigated, but I'm not holding my breath...........

Lotus don't help themselves by ignoring items like this. No wonder people mention concerns over build quality of the brand and choose Porsche instead.

Very short sighted by the factory

Had mine replaced 4 times. One time, the seat was so badly done, when I accelerated, the chair flew backwards. If i braked too hard, the chair flew forwards. Not great when you accelerate hard and then are out of reach of the brake, and when you brake, end up having your foot thrown onto the pedal harder, and doing an emergency stop unintentionally.

Even worse discovering it on your way back from the pub.

I've asked local dealer for a LHD passengers fixed seat runner, as it's clear the drivers runners are not fit for purpose.  I have seat fully back, so a fixed setup would work for me,

I was considering an Evora as a partner for the Exige, but it's silly little things like this that make me question having another Lotus.  Amazing cars let down by silly mistakes on build quality

Dealerships are great, but let down by the factory on known issues.

I am surprised there's not a permanent fix for this considering how frequently it comes up. It's got to the point with us we don't even bother changing it because they go again within hours of driving. Although in fairness to lotus I am a bit of a porker and appreciate how well the brakes work on track ;)

if it were not for the fact we both drive and have different seat positions I would just get the fixed runners.
