Generous man with Esprit sought...

Hi guys,

Most of you will know about my Evora 400 and what I'm up to with it. For those that don't, pop over to the Evora section where I'm keeping a running thread of my ownership from Day 1, with an accompanying video diary on Youtube (www.jayemm.com)

One thing I want to do is to compare the car with other cars that may appeal, but doing things in a slightly unusual manner. So my last video compared it with a Ferrari 355, slightly unfair given one is 21 years old and the other is 21 days but both now cost the same it seems. Soon I want to compare the car against a hot hatch, then an M3, etc...

One car I would love to do a comparison with, but have no direct access to, is an Esprit. Preferably it would be great to compare with a V8 because in terms of "most powerful Lotus" the V8 has only just handed over the mantle to the new 400. Given the fact any new Esprit is probably some way off, the Evora now inhabits the role the Esprit did of Lotus' flagship. It'd be great just to spend some time with the cars side-by-side and see just how far Lotus have come. What would be absolutely amazing is being able to drive said Esprit, for which I'd happily exchange seat time in the 400, but failing that just an opportunity to get up close and personal with one would be great. I've seen a few at meets but not had the time to properly explore one.

If there is anyone out there who may be able to help, or knows someone who can, I would love to know!

Thanks everyone

Hi Jay,

I watched your Ferrari 355 and Evora vid just last night and have to say that I was thinking exactly the same thing! a comparison with a Late V8 would be superb. There is also very little on these cars online which is a shame so it would be great to see some modern footage/review. Alas I cannot help with a late V8 but could possibly assist with a Guigaro Turbo esprit at some point.A sport 350 would probably be the best comparison. Good luck with the search!

Really enjoying the vids, keep up the fantastic work.

Regards,

Jon

Deffo Brooke's! As close as you will get to one of the last Esprits and with an awesomely low mileage to boot. That would be a brilliant comparison to a nearly new Evora, James.

I will offer mine as well but it is an early V8 with 57k on the clock. Anyway, if you get stuck..!

Thanks Alan, very kind words, I think with the time money and expertise that has gone into your car not to mention the awesome colour, awi mono blocks and wrap around dash James wouldn't go far wrong with yours, I just had a little less to do than you today hence a speedy response :)

Ha, trying very hard to resist the temptation to say something about the comparison and Esprit V8s and to queer the pitch!

SHUT UP ALAN!!!!!!

Leave the man alone and let him form his own opinions! Perhaps we should lock this thread now :P

Having said that I should probably kidnap James evora hostage until the video is released with the correct conclusion :)

It should be said that I will be comparing the cars entirely on completely relevant things like number of turbos, number of wiper blades and number of exhausts to decide a clear and honest winner :D

I would love to know a little bit more about the V8's engine and specifically the troubles the early one had. I do believe it was fixed quite early on, is that right? Any links to threads with interesting tid bits of information always appreciated!

Also valid points. Equally important as prominence of spoiler and number of cylinders :)

Early ones had cylinder liner problems and the single clutch plate wasn't up to much. As in mine was originally a Lotus director's car and they put a completely new engine in at 7k miles! Most early V8s had the upgraded twin plate AP clutch setup retrofitted as well.

Where's Barry?

Come on Ian, leave him alone please. He is sat in his engine cavity cross legged, gently rocking backwards and forwards, sobbing... :(

Alright, form an orderly queue gentlemen.

Anyone interested in getting their cars or themselves on camera, please do PM me. I will have the first "owner profile" video up sometime next week, with hopefully many more to follow. Let's see how much brand awareness we can build. Take some weight off poor old Bibs' shoulders :D

There'll be a number of Esprits - both G & S (no S4s or v8s I think - they all look the same to me :) ) - at the next Herts/Essex/Cambs meet on Thursday 9th.

Excellent. I keep waiting for the relevant thread to appear in the H/E/C section so I know what the venue is this time round.

I had so much fun thank you James!! Was uber interesting seeing your reactions to the esprit and such a blast getting a go in the 400 what a machine!!!

For the record James was a very respectful driver of the esprit if anyone else has anything interesting to do anymore 400 versus (fingers crossed a gt4 turns up) type content :)
