Wolfrace centre caps

Recommended Posts

My series 1 is lacking two of the Wolfrace centre caps :D I've found a source for a replacement made from aluminium but they don't have the Wolfrace logo in black & white in the centre. Is it possible to buy a stick on logo from anywhere just to finish them off?

Thanks, Paul.

Me too, me too! I could use an extra set of center caps -- I have five complete sets of Wolfrace wheels but only two sets of center caps!

Several years ago, a friend of mine had found a vendor who reproduced the center caps -- I think he was a Reliant Scimitar parts/specialist -- but they were a little pricey.

My joy has turned to sadness as I think these are the wrong size :D They are 45mm but I believe the wheel centre caps should be 36mm Hohum

The original centre caps were all hand spun aluminium.

The same way an aluminium saucepan is made, by spinning a wooden form on a lathe, and forcing a disc of thin aluminium to conform to the shape with a large wooden lever.

They were outsourced by Wolfrace, I know Singh Brothers , Metal Spinners of Smethwick, Birmingham made alot of them for Wolfrace (in the 80s)

For what it's worth,

I have original center caps for both of my cars, and they are mixed between the style in the photo and the style Gordon describes. The inside of the wheel is shaped to take both the fluted edge and the expanded edge.

The emblems on mine are "old style", where the font for "Lotus" has wider vertical strokes. I think the emblems are the same as on some Europa wheels -- not sure.

But just looking at the pic, those aluminum center caps look good to me.

I've ordered a set of the ones in the link I posted earlier and will let you know how well or badly they fit when I receive them. I think they'll be spot on.

Did the centre caps fit, cos I need some for my S1. I've got what I assume are originals but they are battered.

Look what Q's brought us. Isn't it nice!

Yes and no!! You will have to cut about 3 or 4mm off the bottom edge all the way around to get them to fit. They are slightly different in shape (more straight than rounded towards the badge) but they will look okay. I have some pictures at home somewhere that I can send you if you want. He may not have any more in stock but if you want you can have mine for what I paid for them as I don't need them for a couple of years!!
