Fuel Injector Cleaner

My '95 S4 isn't always happy to start when the engine is cold, and I am getting terrible gas mileage (but that might be related to my right foot). Eventually I plan on getting some RC injecotrs from WC Engineering, but in the mean time, I thought I'd try using a bottle of Mobil or Valvoline fuel injector cleaner. Has anybody tried this?

Before you spend good money on injector cleaner why don't you find out what is going on. Have you Freescan? record a log file . Poor start and/or stalling plus poor mpg. Classic symptoms of a bad lambda sensor. If you blocked injectors the long term fuel trim tables will be high.

After doing some more searching, it does seem like it's the Lambda sensor...does anybody know where I could pick one up in the states? Is it a GM or Lotus part (part number?).

If your car has any mileage on it or even if not, by this time a bit of gumming up or build up in the injectors would not be unlikely.

I use a product called PI by Amsoil. It is a bit thicker than the generic brands and you only use a little bit. It makes a noticeable difference.

I get it at a loal performance shop. You can use a bit more on the initial application to get at the heavier deposits and then cut back to the recomended amount for regular maintanence. On the occasion that I had to pull the cylinder head I had almost no carbon build up and my injectors are flowing as they should. I have 90+K miles on my 89 Esprit.

Since you have not done anything like this, it would not hurt to give it a try.
