Accuphase E-800 Pure Class A Integrated Amplifier now on Demo!

F3fTQoV.jpg

Hi All,

Just a really quick one to say that we now have the new Accuphase E-800 Pure Class A Integrated amplifier now on Demo, this is my first foray into Class A solid state amplification and I have to say I can see why people like this kind of amplification as it really does give an extremely natural presentation but with great control, it really is very engrossing.

The E-800 is basically 50 watts into 8 ohms which at Class A is pretty much enough power to drive any speakers out there, it's certainly not small but if you are looking for an amp to get the best out of your speakers and prefer your HiFi more on the musical side then I would highly recommend giving the E-800 a good listen.

Cheers,

Paul.

Focal Scala Utopia Evo Speakers Now on Demo, What a Stunner!

MuMQeiO.jpg

Hi All,

Another day and more new demo stock, this time I have to say this is one of the prettiest speakers we have ever had at HiFi Lounge, the Focal Scala Evo Speakers in the new Noyer Natural Finish, I nearly went for blue but took a gamble on this finish and I'm so glad I did as they really are gorgeous, they look good in the pictures but are even better when seen in the showroom and the great news is that they really do sound as good as they look.

So far I have run them with Naim, Chord and Accuphase and all 3 give very different presentations, all great but just very different. Priced at £29,999 they certainly aren't cheap but in all honesty you really could argue they are worth every penny when you see and hear them.

If you'd like to come in for a listen anytime please feel free to book an appointment.

Cheers,

Paul.

Full Range of the New PMC Twenty5i Series Speakers now on Demo!

U0Z5HQE.jpg

Hi Everyone,

Just wanted to say that we now have the full range of the new PMC Twenty5i  Series speakers on permanent demo, these were announced sometime ago and where due to be with us much sooner than this but obviously a little thing called Covid 19 decided to come along and ruin our fun but the good news is that they are all now here and are sounding excellent.

I don't know how they do it but it really sounds like PMC have made even more gains with their Twenty5 range, now on it's 3rd generation, listening to the new 25.23i's there is definitely a more open and airy midrange with a more refined top end, these really are awesome speakers and it is easy to see over our time as a dealer they have been our most popular speaker.

Anway if you'd like to come in for a listen anytime please feel free to book an appointment.

New REL 212/SX Subwoofer Installed At HFL and at Home!

GAYh87Z.jpg

Hi All,

So I have been banging on for years how all 2 channel systems benefit from running a dedicated REL Subwoofer to underpin the front left and right speakers and it looks like the word is really getting out there now as we have never demoed and sold so many subwoofers as we have over the last few months, infact REL have seen unprecedented demand so it looks as if Covid has helped people see the light somehow, for me adding a Sub is the best pound for pound upgrade there is to get more from your system.

So at home I just installed the new REL 212/SX subwoofer to underpin my PMC BB5 SE’s, now a lot of people would probably think that if you have a speaker with 2 x 15 inch bass drivers there would be no need for a sub but I can assure you once you have heard the difference you would be really amazed as it isn’t all about adding bass, in fact you set the sub to a very low level so it is hardly noticeable but it adds real weight and depth to the bottom end which in really frees up the mid range and adds more depth and width to the soundstage.

I became really aware of the importance of good subs for 2 channel when I went to Dave Wilson’s house in Utah to hear the incredible £700,000 Wilson Wamm and they had a sub running with each speaker and that really is a big speaker so if a Wamm needs subs then suley every speaker out there does.

For me it is almost a case of any REL sub is better than no sub, in fact I struggle to listen to a system nowadays if there is no sub installed, but it is a little more involved than that but REL offer such a comprehensive range there is something for everyone really and for me it has to be a REL thanks to their Hi-Level connection designed for speed and integration for 2 channel, I won’t go into that here but feel free to give me a shout if you’d like to know more.

We have also now installed a 212/SX into our so called new Reference system to work with our Wilson Alexia 2’s, again these are a £65,000 speaker that really do benefit from the addition of the 212/SX, I should also mention that the new Wireless modules from REL really are quite exceptional and actually work better than running the normal Hi-Level cable, it is put down to the fact that the wireless technology is so fast now that it is actually faster than a hard wired cable.

If you have still not experienced the benefit of a sub with your 2 Channel system please feel free to book an appointment to give it a try, I know you’ll be impressed.

Please find a link to the REL range on our website and a few pics below –

Dan D'Agostino Joins HFL's Portfolio!

Hi All,

So this is a big one for us, over the years I have always wanted to add Dan D'Agostino to our portfolio, for 2 reasons really, one for the looks, I just think they look beautiful although I am aware that they do divide opinion and also that when it comes to Highend Hifi, especially amplifiers then Dan D'Agostino is up there with the very best and arguably the Relentless Monoblocks, at around £250,000 for a pair, are considered the best on the planet so is it is a great honour to add D'Agostino to our portfolio and finally when building our so called 'Reference System' it didn't seem complete without D'Agostino amplification in the lineup.

For those who don't Know Dan D'Agostino was the founder of Krell but in 2011 he moved on to start his own company bearing his name and has really taken amplifier design and to another level creating amplifiers that will drive any speaker on the planet and that look like nothing else.

Unfortunately we couldn't afford to start with a pair of Relentless Mono's so have gone with the Progression Stereo Power amp and the Progression Integrated, as soon as funds permit I will also add the Progression Preamp then start looking at the Momentum range.

As for sound quality, well for me I find them fast, amazing separation and clarity but always with enough warmth, I remember one demo I did recently with our Wilson Sabrina's using the Progression Stereo amp and I really have never heard them sound better, one thing is for sure if you are looking for a new Highend Amplifier then you really owe it to yourself to give Dan D'Agostino a listen.

Please find the range on our website below and a few pics of our new demo models.

dCS Vivaldi 4 Box Stack Now on Demo to Complete Our New £300K Reference System!

RdKnD7m.jpg

Hi All,

So way back in January, yes before we knew how Covid was going to change the world, I decided that it would be cool to have a so called resident 'Reference' system in our Highend Room so I placed a load of orders for a lot of Highend kit to create this system, then Covid hit and I thought Bugger as lot of it started to arrive during lockdown and needed paying for, but we are through that now and the system is complete and up and running and sounds incredible and was worth every penny.

When it comes to a digital front end then the best in the world has to the the 4 Box dCS Vivaldi system so I am really excited to have this now on permanent demo at the heart of our Reference system, if you go to any Highend show then inevitably it is Vivaldi that is being used, I remember when I went to Dave Wilsons house to hear the Wilson Wamm's he was running Vivaldi with D'Agostino so we have created a mini version running into the Wilson Alexia 2's.

So the system basically comes to over £300,000 and comprises of the dCS Vivaldi fed by the Taiko SGM Extreme, I have to say that the Vivaldi system sounded incredible but when we added the Taiko it really did take the Vivaldi to another level, the Extreme really is an incredible digital source, this is then fed into the Audio Research Reference 6 SE Preamp then into either amps from Constellation, D'Agostino, Audio Research or Chord Electronics with their Ultima Mono's, due to weight we keep the Constellation Taurus and D'Agostino Progression Stereo permanently in the rack, these then go to the awesome Wilson Audio Alexia 2's which are underpinned with a REL 212 S/X subwoofer, all connected with Transparent Reference cables with all the kit sitting on Quadraspire X Reference supports.

How does it sound? in all honesty incredible, when I first listened to it trying songs I always use to try new kit I got a little emotional as I have been playing these same songs over the years but I can honestly say I had never heard them like this before, it really is incredible, so much insight and tangibility, there is an air of realism I have never heard before with HiFi, it is such a shame that we can't do any open days at the moment to showcase it all but if any of this system is of any interest please feel free to book an appointment to come in for a listen.

Being a HiFi enthusiast I already have plans how to take this system to the next level when funds permit, as a lot of people will know speakers are my favourite part of a system, for me they give you the biggest upgrade so I'm definitely eyeing up a bigger pair of Wilson's next year all being well.

Please find a few pics below but to be honest as nice as it all looks it can't convey the magical sound quality, one thing is for sure I'm glad I did order it all before Covid hit as I may not have done it with the world we are living in at the moment but I am so glad to now have this system on permanent demo.

In order below is the Vivaldi Upsampler, DAC, CD/SACD Transport +Clock.

Cheers,

Paul.

PMC Ci140 Speakers + Bryston 28B3 Amplifiers Installed at Home!

Hi All,

PMC Ci140 Speakers

So we've had this week off, what do you do on your week off? Yeah play with new speakers and amps for our home system, a real busman's holiday, first we installed the new Epic PMC Ci140's for rear speakers, they are not exactly small but are the perfect match for our BB5 SE's and really do sound incredible, a huge step up from the PMC Wafer 2's we were using beforehand.

I actually wired them up to test for 2 channel and they really are quite incredible, just like having a pair of 25.26's on your wall which is great as up until now I would say there haven't been many on wall solutions that work really well for music and cinema and not everyone wants floor standers in their room so I can see this new Ci Range from PMC being extremely popular for Cinema systems and a more discreet 2 channel system, it really is great to have a real musical on wall solution, good job PMC 👍

Bryston 28B Amplifiers

Then it was time for new amps, so owning a pair of Bryston 28B’s has been something on my to do list for the last 10 years+ so once again due to Covid 19 and the attitude of ‘what am I actually waiting for’ I am really pleased to have finally installed a pair to our system at home and I am really happy to say they have really been worth the wait, they have really woken up our PMC Speakers BB5 SE’s, everything has more space, air and separation but also everything feels faster and more rhythmic, Wendy uses Radiohead's ‘How to Disappear Completely’ as her system test track and it threw her a bit last night as it sounded so different from the 7B3’s we were running before, she had never heard separation like this before at home and took her a while to adapt but eventually she really began to appreciate it.

Next job are some longer legs to give a bit more ventilation and that will also allow me to add a Bryston BP173 preamp then I think we done with our Covid 2020 upgrades.

I should also mention that we put a Solid Steel isolation platform under our REL Acoustics 212/SX Sub and that has really helped tighten up the real low end giving it more depth and impact so that was a really nice little tweak.

Right we have really got into Game of Thrones over the last few weeks, only 2 episodes left so time to crank it up and enjoy.

The New Wilson Audio SabrinaX Speakers Now on Permanent Demo!

Hi All,

So it is always big news when Wilson Audio launch new speakers, arguably makers of the best speakers in the world, but when it is a new version of the brilliant Sabrina then for me it is even bigger news as the Sabrina is one of my favourite speakers ever.

Now I know that I love big speakers but from a design perspective there is something magical about getting a really big and musical sound from a small speaker and for me this is why the Sabrina is so good and loved by so many which is why I am really excited to say that we now have the new SabrinaX on permanent demo.

I have been listening to these a fair bit lately and I have to say that in reality no one needs more than a Sabrina, it gives you a huge slice of the bigger Wilson's but in a form factor that will fit most peoples living spaces, whenever I set up a Wilson demo I have to stop and listen longer than I normally would as they are so engaging and musical and the new SabrinaX's really does take the Sabrina design to a whole new level.

So what is different? firstly the whole cabinet is made from Wilson's X Material seen in their much higher end models to give a much blacker background, the same tweeter as the Wamm and XVX, the same 8" woofer as the DAW, also the same binding posts and spikes from the XVX + much more, so as you can see Wilson really have gone to town on the SabrinaX to deliver a small speaker with no compromise that sounds so right and really does pull you into the music.

Hope I don't sound too enthusiastic but for me the original Sabrina was one of the best speakers ever designed and the new SabrinaX really does take this design to the next level.

If you'd like to come in for a listen and any point please feel free to book an appointment.

Please find a few pictures of our demo SabrinaX's in the stunning metallic Crimson Red.

Cheers,

Paul.

Sennheiser Launch The Limited Edition HD800S Anniversary Edition Headphones!

Hi All,

Just a quickie to say that to celebrate their 75th Anniversary Sennheiser have launched a Limited Edition pair of the HD800S's, there are only 750 pairs worldwide, 25 pairs coming to the UK and we have managed to secure 2 pairs, they have a really nice Matt gold finish, they also have an individual engraved serial number and the best part of all they are the same price as the original HD800S's at £1399 with the same great sound quality.

For me the HD800S is a classic and one of my favourite headphones, I always think the are incredible value for the sound quality you get and especially as they are a headphone that actually gives you a real soundstage, rare in a headphone.

If you'd like to grab a pair of these Limited Edition Anniversary HD800S's please get in touch as once our 2 pairs are sold we can't get anymore unfortunately.

Franco Serblin Speakers now on Permanent Demo, Something Truly Special & Unique!

Hi All,

I am really pleased to say that we have now added Franco Serblin speakers to our portfolio, for those who don't know Franco Serblin was best known for forming Sonus Faber in 1983 and creating many stunning speaker designs which were always considered beautiful in design but also extremely musical and natural in presentation, In 2006, after 33 years at Sonus Faber, he left to pursue starting a speaker company in his own name designing even more beautiful speakers where catching the emotion of the music was paramount, sadly he passed away in 2013 but he has left us with an astonishing lecagy.

One of my first High End Audiophile memories was hearing a pair of Franco Serblin designed Sonus Faber Extrema's at a friends house and being absolutely transfixed by what I was hearing and I was really hopeful that the Franco Serblin range would give me that emotion which I am pleased to say they do, especially the Ktema which is one of the best speakers I have ever heard.

At the moment we have 3 of the 4 speakers in the range on demo with the Accordo Essence following shortly, all 3 pairs we have here are some of the most beautiful speakers I have ever seen, a real Franco Serblin trait and all sound very musical and not HiFi.

I do have to say a special word about the flagship Ktema though, this was Franco's last design which was 5 years in the making and all I can say is that it is not like any other speaker I have ever heard, for a start it is a 4 way design with 2 mid range drivers, these along with the tweeter are at the front of the cabinet with 2 bass drivers located at the rear firing into the Sycamore enclosure and venting out the sides, this is to create the live sound where the singer is at the front and the band behind and although the dynamics and presentation are extremely natural it is the bass that struck me as it is so different to all other bass I've experienced before as it uses the cabinet to create a very organic bass, very natural, you can feel the cabinet moving as the drivers fire into the back panel, it really does give texture and realism to the lower end, still fast and defined but really well integrated into the music, really hard to put into words but these speakers really do need to be heard, no wonder Ken Kessler in HiFi News gave them 89% saying it is one of the finest speakers he has ever heard and he couldn't imagine an owner ever parting with them, a truly great parting gift from Franco Serblin.

Please find the range below on our website + some pics, with the Lignea first, then the Accordo followed by the incredible Ktema, if you have any questions or you would like a listen please give me a ring to book an appointment.

Sonus Faber Trade Up Promotion + New Lumina Speakers on Demo!

rsPQCjb.jpg

Hi All,

A couple of bits of Sonus Faber news, firstly from now till the 31st December Sonus Faber are holding a promotion where if you trade in your current speakers you will get the full new value back on them against a new pair of Sonus Faber speakers which really is a cracking deal, if you would like more information please feel free to get in touch, this promotion is on Sonus Faber speakers starting with the Sonetto Range all the way to the very top models.

Also we now have the new Sonus Faber Lumina I and III speakers on demo, now the strange thing is that I never thought I'd get excited by normal box design Sonus Faber, definitely used to more elaborate designs from them, but I have to say in true Sonus Faber tradition they are beautifully made in the classic wood/leather finish but actually they sound fantastic which is the main thing and for £799 for the book shelf's and £1999 for the floorstanders I have to say they seem like really good value so if you'd like a listen please feel free to get in touch.

Please find some pics below and a link to them on our website -

The New SME Model 6 Turntable + the Legendary SME Model 20 Now on Demo.

fIKWzVs.jpg

Hi Everyone,

So the vinyl revival show's no sign of stopping, saying that I think it is time we stop calling it a revival as I would say Vinyl is now here to stay good and proper, it has seen off that pesky challenger in the form of CD and rightly so, the only reason really that vinyl has shown such dexterity is because it just sounds so damn fine, I know there is the whole nostalgia thing and us humans like to own stuff but at the end of the day the main reason vinyl is now so strong is because it just sounds so right, for me if you love your music then you really do need a turntable in your system.

So bearing this in mind I am really pleased to announce that we are now have the new SME Model 6 turntable on demo + we have the awesome Model 20 that will soon be installed into our Reference System as it can't really be a Reference System without a turntable and for me SME are amongst the best in the world so the Model 20 will fit in there just perfectly.

SME Model 6

So this is a really exciting new turntable from SME, hardly entry level at £5995 but this is now where the SME range starts and it is unmistakably an SME thanks to it's stunning build quality and design, from what I understand it is made from a premium high density aircraft grade material that is exclusive to SME but once you experience it in the flesh you really can appreciate the quality, we have partnered our Model 6 with one of my favourite cartridges, the Kiseki Blue, I have found the Kiseki's really work well with SME as SME's are a very honest presentation but the Kiseki's just add a touch of warmth to give that lovely analogue sound. We are one of the first in the world to have the Model 6 on demo so please feel free to get in touch to book a demo, this price point is new ground for SME but I can see it being very popular indeed as it really does sound fantastic.

SME Model 20

There isn't a lot I can say about the SME Model 20 to be honest as it really is a classic high performance turntable, coming in at over 30 kg's just shows how well engineered this turntable is, when I started thinking of putting a turntable into our reference system the Model 20 was top of my list, fitted with the SME Series V tonearm it really is a stunning turntable but any turntable is only as good as it cartridge, now I love Dynavector so I thought there is no point in mucking around so we decided on the top of the range £5995 DRT XV-1t to partner it, still deciding on the phono stage to be honest but hope to have it installed into the Reference system very soon as I just can't wait to hear it.

So we now have 4 SME Turntables on demo from the new Model 6, then the Model 12, 15 and 20 so if you'd like to take your vinyl playback to the next level please feel free to get in touch.

Please find some pics below, first of the Model 6 then the 20 and a link to SME on our website -

Season 3 Done and Dusted, What To Do Next Year?

niifheT.jpg

Hi All,

So in this strange year that is 2020 it is amazing that we had a season at all in our Radical SR1 but fair play to Radical for pulling it off, we have just finished with 2 race weekends, one at Brands Hatch on the full GP layout, this was a first for me and was another tick on my motorsport bucket list then last weekend we signed off with 2 days at Donington Park which along with Silverstone if my favourite UK track.

At Donington the first race and qualifying was dry but then the end of the world happened as a monsoon hit, they tried to run the race but it was definitely the worst conditions I have ever driven in, even going round behind the safety car we had guys spinning off, give me a dry, hot and sticky track any day of the week, anyway after 5 laps it was abandoned, a sorry way to end the season but that kind of sums up 2020 I guess.

So that is the end of Season 3 in our Radical SR1, it has been brilliant fun with some huge highlights, I really never thought I would be lucky enough to get an opportunity like this, yes I wish I was faster but it really has been an amazing experience. What to do next year though, I can stay in the SR1, as there is talk of longer races next year which I like the sound off, take the SR1 into a different championship, upgrade it to an SR3 and try the 750 Moto Club or do something totally different, maybe look at racing a Lotus of some kind, one thing is for sure it is now in my blood so if I can I definitely want to carry on racing in one form or another.

Anyway please find some pictures below from Brands Hatch and Donington Park.

Cheers,

Paul.
