I agree with Kim, us lot who are out of the country feel a bit useless and disappointed that we can't help. Working on a car in the presence of the Troy God is an experience we would all relish. Instead, us foreigners and ex-pats have to live vicariously through your reports and pictures, Bibs.

I left them all siting around a wood fire drinking beer ( thanks to the anon donation of 6 cases of beer :w00t: ) at 1am this morning and got back at 3am this morning

Thanks to Simon for his great hospilality, and i can't wait to see the 45 min Video of us merry in the pub next door (non of us had eaten much that day )

the lack of photos is mainly due to Simon only being in the house a short time, and has no internet yet.

Punky has taken many pictures but unfortunately, the card has gone tits up and blanked its self :(

but hopefully Alex is back today so he can post some pics for you.

has anyone tried this Free PHOTO RECOVERY SOFTWARE???

Most the metal parts have now been de-rusted and have had a base paint coat put on.

photos to come ..... hopefully

Hi All,

back from a top weekend of grinding metal and drinking ale. Will post more later but here is a taster. Also a big thumbs up to the beer donor, it was much apreciated by the troops.

General Troy let the men chill out as they needed some RnR. I saw the DVD of Fridays shenanegans in the pub and house this morning. Classic stuff, maybe oscar winning direction by Simon.

A big up for simon for all his hospitality

Cheers

Alex

Time to add a little more detail.........

Arrived friday evening about 8.45 to see the troops hard at work removing grime and rust off parts of the car. It looked like tthey had removed every mechanical bit off the car. Eventually Troy called a halt to grinding noise about 9.30. The workers got changed and we went to the pub next door about 10.15ish (memory is a little hazy).

What followed could only be described as the Colour of Money meets The fast show meets Monty Python meets MTV.

Anywho most people had not eaten much that day at all and had several late nights working on the car. This made the amber nector go down quite easily. Simon for some reason had brought a handy cam the size of something that would not be amiss on a hollwood set to the Pub. We played in teams at Pool and it seems that Roger is a bit of pool hussler, trick shots were demo'ed by my good self, troy couldnt control his balls so caroline took over them, a thong wedgie occured, lots of gags and some 360 degrees camera work resulted in something which is far more entertaining that whats on at the crucible at the moment.

Several large beers later, (Roger was on Halfs, large halfs by the way) we got turfed out of the pub and so ensued a long journey home. We nearly called a cab, but in the end decided to walk the 14 yards. In side the filming continued, several scenes were shot and which could be titled....

Billy no-mates on my mobile featuring Simon :(

Can I have 3 or 4 pizzas please by Simon:pizza:

Lego by Lotus starring Rodger :rtfm:

and many more. The DVD will be out soon!!!!!!!!!!

Eventually everyone went to bed and apparaently we had a loud snorer int he house. I wonder who!!!!!

Next morning, General Troy was at the battlefront again at about 9.30 sharpish followed by everyone else by about 10.15. All smiles and plenty of paracetamol. We got stuck in to rubbing , grinding and paintint with good gutso. Even Caroline became handy with the old drills by lunchtime.

PICT1062.jpg

Simon and Dodgy disappeared to Halfords to get some Kurust, apparently it is ten mins away but they took an hour and a half. In their defence Simon had been round to his Mom's and she russled up a big stash of sausages, cooked onions and bread rolls for lunch. (Star mom, she has been feeding the troops on the front line regularly).

PICT1048.jpg

Just after lunch a HUGE :( delivery of beer arrived from an anonymous donor to keep the troops lubed up for the week. Much appreciated by all.

PICT1060.jpg

By the afternoon everyone was working hard on bits and pieces from the car. Troy had a steady stream of parts to paint and assembled a piece of art called the Esprit Dream Catcher. I went for a power nap. Some distraction came from Simons delivery of Maxim magazine which seemed to get thumbed by many greasey fingers!!!

PICT1072.jpg

Punky (as Dave stated earlier in this thread ) tested the HSE laws to the limit. The sun shone nicely all day causing Caroline to burn and Troy to talk on what was described as a mucky tan. We all thought it would wash off but it didnt.

Into the evening and we finished up Kurusting all the last bits and were forming a holding pattern on what to do. General Troy advised that this lull happens in the best of car builds when you are waiting for bits to dry. Meanwhile Simon who had left to collect Jonathan form Bibsy as Bibsy was going to BigSi, it would have looked wierd Jonathan turning up and saying "Oh just passing through!", turned up as we ran out of bits to work on. Jonathan was gutted and he was wanting to get stuck in, but the sad face turned to joy as he discovered no-one had been working on the exhaust pipes. With the bit between his teeth he set to work on cleaning and polished them up so well that you could see yer face in them.

PICT1074.jpg

In preparation for the evening myself and simon went and foraged for fire wood for a bonfire later that night.

Troy continue his painting masterclass and the rest of us wound down (got cleaned, well some of us) and enjoyed a cool beer. All we had to do was to wait for Bibs and Laura to turn up so we could get going on the BBQ.

As the light was fading they arrived and we witnessed a comedy ten mins as Simon tried to get his Gas BBQ lit. Eventulaly the flames burned bright (note Troy was still painting pieces of metal at this time) and the food went on. It transpired that we had a star chef in our midst, Roger was a total dab hand at cooking all the food. :(

PICT1082.jpg

The beer flowed, the food was good, the banter was great

"I think I look lovely in womens clothes" by Simon

"I even shaved my chest down to the nipples" by Simon

" C'mon guys give us a hand with my meat" by Simon

, the hedghog was lost and the temperature went down. Spirits were high and a fire was prepared. It was not something out of the Ray Mear's text book but it was a fire. Grrrrrrrr, fire, Grrrrrrrrrr to quote Bibsy.

PICT1085.jpg

Music was provided by a rival faction BBQ/Party next door with some Banging and Not-so Banging tunes. Our splendid fire out shone their fairy light display.

PICT1093.jpg

By late evening the Ladies retired early and we left with Bibs (I am going hardcore on the beer), Simon (I have eaten too much, I am unwell, get us another beer), Dodgy (sorry guys I have a serious flatulence condition), Punky (my ar*e is getting damp), Jonathan (I have eaten to much) , Roger (god its cold get me another postmans coat please), Troy (Silver finger), and little old me watching the last of the wood being burnt. As we could not chop a tree up we decided to put the whole thing on and burn it in situ. Bibs was desperate to make a Molotov cocktail and eventually did using a cadbury's creme egg box. During all this we discovered that Roger has asbestos coated fingers, useful for rearranging burning logs!! :w00t: The natural wood ran out , and there were cries of more wood, more wood for the fire. Simon rooted out some lovely Bamboo laminate wood flooring (at

Great write-up and pics Alex. Sounds like you managed to get some work done between beers & bangers!

I'm suffering a touch of flash blindness after looking at that pic of the engine block, really nice work  Someone tell Kelly to take a change of undies to the hand-over Si's gonna need them.

The washing line's like a petrol-head's version of the chimes in Body Heat. Who played the Kathleen Turner role?

Well done lads and lasses. Looking forward to joining the effort.

Luckily for my liver and Simon's bathroom, I only managed to pop to Wales on Sunday. It really was a case of the morning after the night before! I think there might have been more than one beer consumed that day/evening/night. I clicked off a handfull of photos and I'll stick 'em up in no particular order. (See if you can spot the beer cans...)

We got a few more bits and bobs done on Sunday. Troy took on the task of laboriously painting every single suspension part of the car (the washing line had been transported into the garage after two spots of rain threatened to ruin the paint finish!) while we busied ourselves with various other jobs. Johnathan took time off from washing up the aftermath of the previous night's explosion (with the help of Laura), to set up his electrical witchcraft hubbly bubbly bath to nuke various rusty bits of metal into recognisable Esprit bits.

Lunch was a welcome distraction and was supplied by Simon's parents. They must have hijacked a small catering company as the trestle table set up on the driveway was positively groaning under the weight of piles roast beef, roast tatties, roast parsnips, a million different types of veggie and a six gallon flask of scrummy gravy. Strawberries, ice cream and maple syrup on pancakes meant lots of bulging bellies.

The afternoon saw the radiator (and oil cooler) dropped from the car. It gave up it's hold of the front of the car surprisingly easily and didn't need too much persuation from Troy and his dremel. Although neither the rad or the oil cooler appeared to be in too bad a state they've been dropped off at a branch of Serks to be refurbed so that Big Simon won't have any issues in the near future.

Dusk was drawing in and fleeces were starting to worn. Bibs was surfing for porn under the pretence of trying to fix his memory card on his camera, Troy was still in the back garden, this time painting the engine bay panels. I decided to jump back onto the M4 and head for home. I'll pop back during this week, camera in hand, because I know Troy is itching to start re-fitting things now.

(P.s. If you're going to drive over the bridge to Wales it's gonna cost you

If you're around towards the end of May you may well be about for the big day

Here's some pics too but first a thank you from Troy to everyone who has been helping out so far. He has really appreciated the effort that everyone has gone to and is chuffed and how things are progressing.

Also, I'd like to echo that sentiment myself as this has really been an eye opener and shown that there is an awful lot of light in what can sometimes appear to be dark times. Everyone involved in the project so far is involved in something which is going to realistically change a man's life. Good on you :)

I've had a chat with a nice lady at Lotus this afternoon. The project and LEF are going to be in the Lotus Magazine, worldwide distribution! Thanks to our friends at the factory for sorting that out :)

We hear too little of the good side.

Cannot believe how much you have acheived in so little time.
