LED rear indicator issue

Hi All - hoping someone can help me here. I installed some LEDs for the rear indicators of my Evora (following JayEmm's really useful how to video), literally only took a couple of mins. They look awesome, much brighter. However, I have come across an issue - for example, when I indicate left, on the binnacle the green left arrow flashes but so does the right arrow. On the outside all is well as the correct side indicates and at a normal rate. 

When I put in the original bulb on one side and an LED on the other the binnacle is back to normal. So something to do with the LEDs for sure - but I find it weird all is okay on the outside, it's just on the binnacle where things look strange. Also surprised it works for a 400 but not the S1 Evora.

Any advice would be much appreciated!

I had exactly the same  problem. Fortunately, the fix is very easy!

Simply remove the LEDs, and replace with the original bulbs :)

Seriously, I suspect the LEDs I got are of poor quality. I just can't be bothered with buying any more as an experiment.

I made a point of buying relatively pricey LEDs (about a tenner), which gauranteed CANBUS compatibility.

There is a good chance it's the brand of bulb you bought, LEDs are notorious for playing havoc with certain cars that come with tungsten bulbs.

I don't mind spending a bit more if I need to get ones with a higher resistance to trick the car into thinking I have the original bulbs in (I'm not the best when it comes to electrics so I could be talking complete crap!)

That's the exact set I ordered. When they arrived, there was no mention of VANSSI on the packaging.

Same as me. They're still working fine (after a quick fix with a soldering iron when one of them fell apart inside the light :() so they can be fitted to an S1 and although I didn't keep the box, this is the (previously) sealed pack that was inside.....

Thanks guys - I'll try again. The ones I previously bought from Amazon came from China and took a while to arrive (from a different seller I think). The ones I can see on there will come next day, fingers crossed.

Same link as above - they are white, don't need to be coloured as the lens is coloured :) Let me know how you get on.

Thread dig… the bulbs linked above by azim are no longer available. Anyone else with an S1 Evora who can confirm other brands which work? I tried the ones from Classic Car LEDs UK (ambers) and they worked fine for one side, but as soon as the second was fitted the hyper flash issue occurred.

TL;DR - any auto electricians who can tell me what a safe operating temperature is for the body of a LED? (I.e. at what point is it a melting or fire risk to the surrounding plastics, fitting or wiring?)

Small update. Perhaps my S1 is particularly sensitive, but have had no luck with Stedi, Classic Car LEDs, or Vanssi as video’d by JayEmm. I did get around the hyperflash issue with a different Vanssi product which is a T15 amber with built-in load resistors, but as expected they got really hot, really quickly. The base of the LED (presumably either the heat sink or where the resistor is located) got to about 100C after five minutes. Admittedly, it was roasting in my garage last night, about 38C ambient - but given the proximity of the Evora’s boot to its engine, that wouldn’t be a surprising operating temp!

Anyhow, looking for some advice on whether that is a concerning temperature - I’m assuming it is? How hot would an incandescent get near the fitting?

Not up to speed on Evora, but could you avoid the hyperflash by using an electronic flasher, and then use non-resistor bulbs that did not have to dump voltage as heat? Or would the Car's computer have a fit about low current draw in the circuit?

Perils of progress, I guess. A pet peeve of mine, that the energy efficiency of LED's is negated by making CAN bulbs into into heaters just to tell the car there's a bulb in place.  

I would assume that unless you live in traffic that an indicator bulb's duty cycle is low enough to not melt anything?

Yes, progress indeed!

Given how tight the indicator fitting is compared to a “normal” car, plus engine proximity, my guess is the LED wouldn’t get much chance to cool when in use. Loss in performance and brightness isn’t a huge concern to me since they are so much brighter anyway, but melting and fire risk are my worries.
 

Whilst I can easily switch off the indicator waiting at the lights, I suppose my concern is if I need to actually use the hazards for a period of time, will the heat keep building to the point of being dangerous? I suppose a hazard triangle is probably the answer there though.
 

I’m still interested in any experience around normal incandescent operating temps and acceptable LED temps, having Googled as much as I can.
