Turbo Paint Job Black or body Coloured bumpers?

Oh no it isn't

Hahaha This is my problem! No sooner am I sure of one thing something changes my mind!

@ChrisJ I do like the decals on yours, they seem much more like those on the black bumper cars. Mine are a bit like the last red car I posted above from the book...so small you can hardly see them.

One thing is there are definitely less more decent quality pictures of Red TE cars with coloured bumpers that those with black bumpers. Strange as there should have been more made with black bumpers due to a longer production run?

Still this thread proves to me there is much less in it between the 2 than I had ever thought.

Black bumpers with white is a given!

Here is a pic from the Jeremy Walton Esprit book. That is exactly the same as mine right now...although maybe not as pink as mine.

I do like the look of this but I think I prefer the black. But would my car thcar always be something it's not?

Buddsy

That's Chris (Mickey Mouse) Cole's car.

There are lots on here already of it

Show and Shine competition at Brands Hatch

Concours at MBW 2014/15 etc etc

Personally I prefer the light blue S3 in the book.... B-)

That's just poetry, as are all G cars. It's pointed out one thing always bothered me on the S3 onwards though (more than body cooured bumpers); that's the lock on the fuel cap (and stick-out tab to spin it which always seemed a bit unnecessary with the 4 finger gaps around it).

The smooth cap on the S1/2 would be a nice amendment to post '81 cars and still looks futuristic - even if it is just a disc fibreglassed to a Morris Marina bottle-top gas cap!

Thanks for posting them Stephen. Really good to see two spotless examples posted side by side!

Hard to say which I prefer!

I think the black decals go really well with the black bumpers.

Cheers Phil. Part of my quandary was hen you turned up in your Roman Bronze car! Its funny how the body coloured bumper cars kinda change the shape. Your Ice Blue one looks about a foot longer than the bronze...it isnt is it? Lol had and extension or just a bit excited? :getmecoat:

Any ideas on somebody local who would do a good paint job and some minor repairs?

I have had recent estimates from strattons and stocks which were both over 12k, so seriously considering shipping the car to Blackpool.

White car and white bumpers for us.

And even better with the black interior - ''twas the Holy Grail that I travelled far and wide to find but eventually found:thumbup:

Would still say large decals and stripes look best for all early Turbos but other body colours suit the associated decal colour that Lotus intended - I never mess with stock..........having said that I swapped the Gold ones that were on my old '87 Turbo for black ones but probably shouldn't have.

Yip I agree - early ones with the black bumpers look shorter and squatter.........and as a result more aggressive in its stance. That's why I prefer personally B-)

I was thinking about asking Gerald at newmarket to sort it. I know hes mega busy but Im sure hed outsource paintwork.

Yes thats what I thought too, just cant afford that sort of money for a respray. Check out surface and design in blackpool, at least you could drive yours there. Let me know if you get a positive response from gst.

I will but its going to be a couple of years until I am in the position to have the cash to get it done although if its going to be £12k more like 10 years!

I was expecting it to cost about £3k

I can definitely recommend Surface& Design. They really know what they are doing with fibreglass because they specialise in it, having ex-Lotus and TVR guys on board.

I drove mine from London to Blackpool and it was well worth going the extra distance. They did the job properly ie stripping off absolutely everything including removing the door shells from the beams which is a huge amount of work. In fact although I only wanted a respray I ended up with a restoration for a far lower cost than I was quoted in the South for a simple respray.

Despite that, the cost was higher than I paid for the car but thats what I expected and budgeted for when I bought it. Although I bought just before prices started shooting up.
